Lets wait until we know the compensation before going off half-cocked.  Even then, we got something for him where we would not have otherwise. Since we traded for him before the deadline, does all of his dead cap money for next accelerate to this year.  If so might that be a partial reason for why we did it now?  We had the cap room now and wanted to clear the books of his bad contract.  Plus it surely sends a message to the team that no matter who you are or what you make, if you can't play then you will be gone.  Should be a wake-up call to everyone.

 

Good questions that I doubt anyone can answer with a high degree of certainty. 

 

I also wonder if this had anything to do with the Hardy situation. 

 

As for the wake up call-I love the new management.  Beason, very emotionally tied to the fan base, but not a good fit here.  The best teams do not look back emotionally (Hurney and Jake Delhomme, etc) but they spend with the eye on the future.  This move was beneficial to all 3 parties--NY, Carolina, and Beason.
