I know this gives Beason a chance to reignite his career but man do I feel sad to see him go. This guy would have been the greatest pro the Panthers ever had if he never got hurt. And his one fault was that he wanted to get back on the field to help his team as fast as he could. If we just rested him after the initial achilles injury he would have been fine.

My understanding is that there is no dead money after this year.

There has to be dead money. He still had 2 or 3 years of his annual signing bonus allocation that had not yet been charged to our cap. We didn't take the hit this year or he'd be carrying a much higher cap charge.

If my memory is correct, he got like a 20 million signing bonus, and at least 8 of it hasn't hit our cap yet. So we still have to take that charge next year. You can't make that go away.

I know he was a shell of what he used to be but I'm still going to miss the guy.

All I know is, if we get Hicks after this year it will be worth it.   If we traded Beas after a restructure and he turns out to play well with the G's and all we get is a 7th rounders and Hicks bounces somewhere else I'll be pissed.

 

Why get pissed?  He is probably gonna play MLB and he wasn't going to play MLB here.  If he looks real good at MLB it's of no consequence because he wouldn't have played MLB here so there was no way we could advertise his MLB play.   I would be more pissed if we kept him the entire year on the Bench then he leaves and we got nothing for him.
