Beason traded?

Hey! I'm OMG'ing over this too. I'm going to miss the hell out of Jon. We all are. But it may be the best thing for his career. Even if he's not a starter you know he's going to make that Giants team better just by being there. He did that for us.

But did you consider, since we haven't heard from Jon, that this trade may have been his or his agent's idea to begin with? If he's not going to be seeing the field often, it might be difficult for him to work the rust out if he stays in Charlotte.

You can't even be mad for getting a multi time All-Pro for a 7th. Even if it doesn't pan out, the upside is clearly worth the risk. He'll recover from his injury more and more, and he can at least be a decent starter. For a 7th on a team with a terrible LB core? That's straight money.

We traded for what, Louis Murphy? Colin Jones? In the same realm of picks. They're getting a dude that was universally considered a top two MLB for years.

people really need to stop with this hyperbole. they are essentially getting somebody worse than blackburn. he's not the beast of old. you can flip words around and try and make it pretty but it's not. beason is not the same.

I'm not surprised at this. I mean, it's the best for both teams. If I recall the physical that he has to pass is one put in place by the Giants, not just a standard thing.

Not that he won't pass it. But, it's not a done deal unless he can pass that physical correct?

Also, when he does pass it, I think it's the best for him and us. that contract for a player that's not playing to the level of that contract anymore... (MLB), as well as not playing the same position... I think he'll shine (if healthy) in NY in the MLB position.

I wish him the best.

Now, I'd like to know it's not a 7th round pick... LOL but, I have faith it's at least a 5th or 6th, not a 7th.  If we get a 7th, I'll be very surprised at that.

I also agree w/ a lot of this.

low risk high reward. Would have loved to see the Panthers trade for one of the two OTs that have been traded in the past 48 hours.

there's speculation on twitter from NFL writers and journalists that Beason may not pass the physical.

there's hope yet TCF

I'd be shocked if he fails his physical.

It's not that I'm against trading him, but I am against trading him for a "late round pick"

Look at TD. 3 torn ACLs. Nobody gave him a shot to comeback and look at him now.

Imho, Jon Beasons career is not over

Its not the pick we are trading him for.  It is to get his contract off the books.  Sucks but it is a great deal for us.  Any way late round can be anywhere from 5th-7th.

Yeah, I'm assume'n he'll pass. but I have that doubt... depending on the Giants.

I also assume they know what they are getting into with him recovering still.

It all comes down to their perspective on the physical I guess.

We will see.

Doesn't matter whatsoever. I'd rather keep him for the rest of the season and possibly watch him walk at the end of the year than give him up for a 7th. Depth for an injury prone TD and the possibility that MAYBE the reason he hasn't looked great in these first 3 days isn't because he sucks now like people seem to think, but that he is just getting back into the groove of things.

Without a doubt, he's still a starter for almost every team in the NFL, and you don't find sure starters in the 7th round.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
