Beason traded?

I played sports my whole life and have some college rings to show for it.

We had a couple of smart bench players who went on to other coaching staffs.

When they graduated, we still won titles.

Were you best friends with any of them?

Just think how it would make you feel if they told you that they were cutting your friend?

You figured it was their senior year so they would be safe... but they ended up getting cut anyway.

This is essentially what happened to Beason.

Honestly, this is really a stupid trade, and anything other than Nicks, WHICH WAS HIGHLY UNLIKELY AND IMPROBABLE, isn't enough. I don't care if Beason is still relatively unhealthy... He's a good influence on other players and is an invaluable presence in the locker room. He keeps morale up and provides leadership, even if he isn't able to play.

So, we just have possibly the biggest (both literally and figuratively) win in franchise history, possibly shifting an overwhelming amount of momentum in our favor that could possibly carry us into a rare winning streak, and you trade away a locker room favorite and team leader???

And we trade him for nothing? Basically, a favor for his old team... I don't care if he has little to no value elsewhere, he has value in the locker room here and the odds are highly skewed in the direction that we will not get anything close to Beason on the field or in the locker room with a shitty late round pick.

Stupid trade at a even dumber time to do it. Huge strike against Gettleman if all we get is a late-round pick, IMO.

I have to disagree sir. Beason was done we all saw it. His leadership may be hindering luke from becoming the true defensive leader. Even with him gone we still have td this team doesn't lack defensive leaders. Getting anything for beason a guy we benched who may never be the same is a win for both sides. Beason even when healthy never looked good outside. A mlb position for beason could be the best thing for his career.

Have you considered that maybe this is what Beason wants?

A fresh start on a team in which he will get an opportunity to show he can still play MLB effectively?

I'll bet Jon was asked his opinion before Gettleman agreed.

I just want to remind all you "fans" that when Kueckly was drafted, there were a lot of boos, groans, and whining.

AWWW MAN WHY DIDNT WE PICK FLETCHER COX

WE DONT NEED ANOTHER LB WTF HURNEY

Nobody on this website wishes anything bad towards Beason. We all wish him the best. Times change and this nostalgia BS is a serious Achilles heel (no pun intended) to this fan base.

Hell there were groans here when we drafted Beason. A lot of them. We had Dan Morgan and most people wanted Reggie Nelson or Brandon Merriweather.

The sad part is: If/when Beason plays for the Giants, and performs so bad he eventually doesn't play for them, many of the same people criticizing this deal now will say "Whew, I'm glad we were able to trade him away form something/anything when we had the chance". SMH

He was that bad, unfortunately.

These players understand that this is a business. I know he was well liked and a leader, but he had arguably the worst contract in franchise history, his replacement was drafted and has emerged as one of if not the best mlb in the league, and when they tried to move him to a new position he struggled mightily. And that's when he has actually been on the field, which has been far too infrequent.

Sucks this went down, but the writing has been on the wall for some time now.

Its just too soon. Whats the compensation. Beason here rehabbing even for the entire year is better than any 5-7 round pick. Some people just fall in love with having lots of picks... its not worth the trade unless its a 4th rounder.. period.

How does it logically make sense to you that having a player rehab all year to only walk and end of said year, is preferable to getting something of value in return that you wouldn't have otherwise had?

It's the fans that forget this is the business, not the players.

Exactly.

Beason played 1 fuging snap against the Giants and we ended up with our best game in maybe 5 years.

Really?  A forth rounder for a linebacker who has only played.. 4 games in the previous 2 years? In a back loaded contract where everyone and their mother knows we aren't going to pick up?  Who's natural position is MLB in which probably the best MLB is football is ahead of him?

I love Jon Beason... I have his jersey.  But his value to us and his value to 31 other teams are not the same. It's like buying a new car, once you drive it off the lot, it has lost value.  However your bank loan doesn't reflect that.

Sad, but good for all parties involved.

Beason would not have done well as a FA. This gives him a good try out with a new team. I've known for a while that he would not be a Panther next year so getting anything for him now is a big plus.

I dont understand how anyone can argue against this trade...

The Panthers moved on when they restructured Beason's deal. Beason knew the deal. Gettleman was going to release him had he not taken a pay cut this year.

They actually accelerated the cap hit for next year by making him a FA at the years end. Thats not a move you make for someone in your future plans. Beason was not coming back under any circumstance.

Anything they were going to get from Beason was for this season and this season only. Once it was determined his demotion was permanent, there was no need to keep him any longer

Panthers save $700K they can rollover to next years cap potentially and get a draft pick.

Beason gets a final shot to show he belongs in the league and the Giants take little risk in terms of draft compensation.

Its a win-win for everyone, but the Panthers sure didn't draw the short straw in this.
