Beason traded?

I don't get people that think Beason has value beyond a late round pick.

He's a partial season rental, the guy hasn't played in a loooong time, and he is suffering from what is likely to be chronic knee pain. Is that the kind of player other teams want? Perhaps, but not for anything more than a late round pick.

Ohh for Christ's sake. Look at what you're typing. Here's a player, and I don't give a poo if he's a fuging active player who's already enshrined in the Hall of fuging Fame, who's not starting and who's contract voids after this year. He's not going to play this year, baring injury, and next year....well he's not here at all. So your choices are:

A) Keep player here for no fuging reason besides depth and some mythological "Leadership from the pine" quality

B)Get anything of value for him with a limited window of opportunity from a desperate team that needs LB help...

what do you choose?

Well if you're an idiot, you choose A

Good points. Plus, you open up a roster spot.

Beason for a 7th round pick isn't exactly a win...

A 7th round pick might not even translate to a roster player.

He hasn't even really played in two years. What pick would you expect?

We don't know what round we are getting yet.

But the more important thing is we are also doing what is best for Beast. Gives him a chance to rejuvenate his career at the position he is best at.

and about 10 million in cap space that we can use RIGHT NOW, to sign someone else, or extend someone on the roster..................

This is a smart move and anyone who says otherwise is fuging stupid.

Is this not the same forum that vilified Beason when he tore his achilles in 2011 and messed up his knee in 2012? Is this not the group of people that wanted Hurney's head after his 2011 contract extension? Are these the Panther fans who were pissed we picked up Keuchly, another middle linebacker?

Jon Beason is a hell of a leader and a great middle linebacker. Beason has had 2 season-ending-injuries the last 2 seasons and is in his 7th season. Blackburn has won the WLB position that Jon coveted and apparently won over the coaching staff as well. Blackburn won't garner the same contract number as Beason, and has no injury issues like Beason has the past two years.

We can have another player join or a draft pick--something that we Panther fans are constantly bitching about giving up. His contract is also ridiculous considering the amount of playing time. I wish nothing but the best for Jon--a starting linebacker, on a winning team, a Superbowl--but it is not in our best interest to keep him if he is worth more to another team.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
