Getting Above .500

Would be a major accomplishment for this franchise given how bad the last 4 years have been.  The Panthers truly have been a bottom-feeding franchise since the Delhomme meltdown on January 10th, 2009 against the Arizona Cardinals.  Their overall record has been 16-37.  21 Games under .500!  When you stop and look at it objectively, Cam Newton & Luke Kuechly have provided basically the only national sparks to what has truly been an utterly irrelevant era for the Carolina Panthers.

It has currently been 1725 days since then.  For some perspective on how long it's been, George W. Bush was on his 9th to last day in office.  The national average for a gallon of gas was $1.79 (it shortly would begin its upward and exponential increase).  Walter White was still trying to figure out how to get rid of Tuco.   Twitter had just entered the public lexicon after a year of staggering growth.  Cam Newton was preparing to transfer to Blinn College and off the national radar of college football.  Luke Kuechly had yet to graduate high school.

If the Panthers can win against the Cardinals and Rams to move their record (and I believe they should), the streak will hopefully end at 1735 days.  All I can say is its about dam* time

They play in Minnesota next week not against St.Louis. Minnesota is a tough place to play at.

Let's get to .500 first this week....then take it from there.....don't want to overwhelm them with to much winning all in one dose.

Agree- I was mostly just doing this as an exercise to think back to what was going on in the world the last time the Panthers had a winning record and since we are playing the Cardinals this weekend.

My daughter was born on 25 March 2009, she has never known a Panther team with a winning record. Love for her to see it now that she will sit down with Daddy & watch some football...

My son also has never known such a thing....he relates it to unicorns and leprechauns. Just a silly dream.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
