2nd in the division without playing any divisional games. Dont choke.

Question.

If we sweep the saints, but they have an overall better record than us, do we win the division or does the best record in the division wins? In other words, does overall record matter, or does the divisional record matter?

Based on the answer we could be practically 0-0

Divisional record does not matter unless your overall record is tied with the team and you are 1-1 against them.

So if we sweep the saints and end up at the end of the season with a tied overall record, then we are the divisional champs. If the same thing happens but we are 1-1 with the saints then divisional record matters.

From NFL.com

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs
  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

Is this where 'Fug" comes in and tells you to stop making threads until you know what your talking about?

NFC East, NFC South and AFC North divisions are all stumbling out of the gates, so we will take it.  I suspect that we could be tied for the lead in about 4 weeks.

A Giants win does not make me optimistic about RR. I will need much more than that, certainly a record over .500.

When you watch last years Giants game and the week 3 game, I saw a lot of growth in Ron's handle of the game.

Tom had Ron's number last year and Ron kicked Tom's team in the teeth week 3.

When you look at the play calling and the defense we played that not only held an NFL team to 0 points, we were also protecting our weak secondary from a strong passing attack.

I still want to see him win  a close game where he has to manage the clock and still play aggressive defense, but I'm sure that game will come soon enough.

What would the Huddle do if a tie-breaker came down to strength of schedule... All we've done the past 5 years is bitch about having the hardest in the league. What IF that is what won us the division!?!?! Boom! Mind.... Blown.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
