Panthers get WR Hakeem Nicks; Giants get RB Jonathan Stewart

Nicks – who’ll be gone from the Giants after this season – is the ideal solution for the restlessness his fellow North Carolina natives have endured since watching superhuman Cam Newton throw to an aging Steve Smith and a bunch of powder blue-clad Clark Kents.  Stewart gives the Giants an imperfect cure to their weak backfield situation.

Well Hicks is hurt often and Stew is the same way.So I guess one dude riding the bike or another doing the same is a wash.It sure would help us and would benefit them also. Our running game is potent if we keep allowing Cam to do his thing (here that mikey boy), and Barner can bring the goods.Between these two and Deangelo/Tolbert there may not be enough balls to go around.Don't know if DG is a big trade guy,but helping out his old chums while getting us some help may sway the deal.

Unless Gettleman could convince him to first restructure before the trade.

A restructure normally means more guaranteed money in exchange for lowering base salary to lower the cap hit and spread the guarantee into the future.

There is no way possible to downsize his original signing bonus. The signing bonus is what causes the dead money. Sure he could pull a beason and lower his base salary but that does nothing to stop the dead money hit.

Sure there is, you ask the player to downsize his signing bonus.

Hell, a contract can be rewritten for a player to lose all his signing bonus and play for 1 dollar, if the player would agree to it.

NO you can't. The signing bonuses are upfront checks. They are paid the day the contract is signed. For cap purposes you can spread them out evenly for up to 5 years against the cap but you cant erase them.

Here you go zod

"Signing Bonus

Signing bonuses are exactly what they sound like. It is a bonus that is paid directly to the player at the time of signing his contract. For cap calculation purposes, the signing bonus is “prorated” over the life of the contract. This simply means that the amount of the signing bonus is spread out over the years of the contract evenly. So a $5 million signing bonus on a 5-year contract will count $1 million per year against the cap. Again, this is only for cap purposes – the player has already received this money. Signing bonuses are guaranteed and cannot be recouped except in extremely rare circumstances (think Atlanta vs. Mike Vick). The max proration for a bonus is 5 years. This is done so that teams can’t sign 10 year contracts to help alleviate the bonus hit."

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
