Williams or Stewart?

Stewart is no where near the back Deangelo Williams is.

Williams wasn't that great the first 2 years he was in the league either. He was tentative, always broke things outside, often got caught behind the line etc.

Stewart learned alot from Williams just like Williams did from Foster (whether you like him or not). I expect that Stewart will be much better this year. Not so much on numbers alone but in decisionmaking, learning when to cut it up and how to pick his holes. In the NFL you don't get gaping holes like you do in college. Most of the time things close up fast and you have to see the opportunity and penetrate the gap as quickly as possible. I suspect he worked in the offeseason to get even stronger. I am really looking forward to seeing both of them in camp this year.

Yes, but watching Gelo all last year had to be better learning experience. Learning how to be truly successful in the NFL running game while Foster was moderately successful though he did not have that O line to run behind

I see them both having huge years as well. It should be fun watching that duo run the football this season.

The haters haven't shown up yet.

I know it's surprising, but there's really no aspect to hate on when it comes to these 2... Perhaps they aren't at an all time low when it comes to irrational thinking.

Who will be the most helpful back for the Panthers this season? DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart? I feel like we need both a whole lot, but I was just wanting to see who everyone thought would be our top back this year?

carolina definitely needs both, but i think stewart's more physical running style will play a bigger role than last season in order to increase TOP.

If Williams would have had the Oline he had last season the previous 2 years we would have never drafted Stewart...

Just sayin...

i'm not so sure williams will be the "starter". remember stewart had a handful of nagging injuries throughout the season which definitely sank his carries (especially at the goal line) later in the season.

we are blessed with 2 capable starting caliber runningbacks and it would be foolish to have one receiving significantly more attention than the other. imagine if LT and Mike Turner split carries during LT's prime, LT probably wouldn't be partially burned out and Turner wouldn't be the freshest pair of 6 year vet legs in the league killing the panthers twice a year.

what I'm saying is we may very well have a special backfield combination that's never been seen/properly utilized in the history of the NFL, and we should try and make something truly amazing out of it.

I like this. I get giddy at the idea of Williams and Stew pushing 30 but still posting up huge numbers.

However, the NFL is a copycat league and since no one else has done it I'm scared that Fox and Co. won't have the guts/brains to properly use it. It'd be an easy thing for them to just play it safe and use Williams now and let Stewart shine later.

...and there would have been no dept at running back.

unless you're saying they should have built up the o-line and kept foster.

and if that's the case, reread my first sentence.

even with a mauling o-line, williams, and stewart, carolina is still drafting RBs. they're trying to duplicate 2003 and avoid 2005.

yeah i agree

i am expecting very similar numbers. maybe a little less yards and tds for williams. but i think stewart will up his numbers a little bit.

Much tougher competition this year. I won't be surprised if they have a drop off while improving as players anyway.

08 opponents Raiders, Kansas City, Detroit, Broncos our 4 weakest opponents of last year.

This year's opponents who is weak as Detroit or Oakland was? Nobody! at least from this vantage point. Also Broncos D very weak last year.
