Rivera's Presser Today is a Great Watch

he doesn't do it for the money.

His financial situation has nothing to do with hiw he coaches/does his job.

I know that's probably alien to you.

I hope that's sarcasm, but I'm not sure. Unless you are financially independent, then you're like every other swinging dick on this forum, and are in fact highly motivated by money. I bet if JR had offered him lifetime chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea, he'd have told him to go fug himself.

Rivera is a lousy game manager and fails to make in-game adjustments, but Carroll has those similar intangibles. The difference between the two, however, is that Pete is a risk taker (all or nothing) when the game is on the line.

Carroll, has no problem piling on the score as well.

Rivera on the contrary, feels any 3-13 pt lead (no matter how early in the game) is worth sitting on, and running the clock out.  This is despite the fact, he's an awful game manager.

It's not just Rivera's lack of 4th & 1 calls that's frustrating either. It's his offensive play calling and settling for small leads, which bring on too many 4th and 1 situations (and anemic offense), in the first place.

Its a great win and im optimostic about this team this season, but those who claim ron has turned the corner may be jumpimg the gun.

Dont get me wrong he did a great job last sunday, but im not convinced ron has turned that corner until we start winning close games and managing those close games well on a consistant basis.

Bingo!!

How many times, Panthers fans (though not me), thought Ronnie "turned the corner" the past several seasons??   :phew:

Me personally; I would not invite him back under any circumstances, barring a  Super Bowl appearance. I just don't feel he's an NFL level HC. And even if the team made the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make it again the next year, or several years in a row after/again. He's just not the answer.

Sorry.

Those wins we got at the end of last year had people saying Rivera finally figured it out and turned the corner. Then we started 2013 off going 0-2, with one being a signature "play not to lose" Ron Rivera loss to the fuging Bills.

He needs to consistently (key damn word here) play to win games like a man that has a pair of giant balls.

I want him to succeed here. He's a likable guy and all, and I don't want to have to start all over again. But if we have another devastating close loss because he went conservative, then he needs to go. There's no more excuses.

Again, I truly hope that he is finally getting it and changing his ways. We will certainly find out.

During his Giants Presser, When asked "why did you go for it on 4th down late in the game  vs let's say Buffalo"? Rivera said, "cause with this team, you could never put too many points on the board against them".

I almost spit out my food when he said that (amongst everyone's celebration of the Giants game with him).  So he was essentially saying, 'a 3-6 pt lead is okay against Buffalo. But a close game against the Giants (post Buffalo debacle) was not'??

That's Rivera's problem in a nutshell, right there. You play every game to win, regardless of the opponent. And not just after another debacle of a loss that he botched up again. Buffalo (as Tampa Bay, Atlanta, etc. proved last year), can march down the field with no TO's and beat you, like any one else, especially when you give them a chance to do so.

Still don't trust him.

Bingo. Carroll isn't afraid to lose and is willing to pile it on to make damn certain the opposing side lays down. The Seahawks have a killer instinct as a result. Us? We're the Aflac Duck.

Yup Yup.

I felt, the Panthers would have scored an easy TD at the end of the Buffalo game. And what would have been the odds, that Buffalo could have came back from that (at 10 pt deficit)? Not much.

On the contrary, Dumb Dumb Ron Ron, appeared so afraid of a TO (I guess), he felt much better, running down the clock and settling for a FG (boy hasn't he learned after all those dramatic closing losses).

Ironically, even if the Panthers would have coughed up a TO near their end zone, nothing would have changed. If anything, maybe Buffalo tries for a game tying FG, instead of a winning TD (which would have ended with the same ultimate result)? This is what makes, Rivera's lack of Cajones, so stupid to begin with. He's so afraid, he can't think!! It was a dumb decision, all around, to begin with.

You brought up another great point. 'You beat the opposition into submission'. Cause as long as you keep them in the game/hanging around, they're going to try to win. No one's going to stop playing when you have a 20+ pt lead, mind you the 3-14 pt ones Rivera loves to hang onto. So why stop scoring? SMH

Now, you're up by 30+ (in the 4th qtr); that's another story. Lol

yep he needs that philosophy every game. With Cam back there we should be automatic on 4th and 1.

Actually what my original point was is he is still cashing checks, as mediocre as his coaching/decision making has been, he's still making good coin regardless. Shocked at all the Rivera apologists coming out of the wood work after ONE win.

If Ron deserves the job, he will earn it this year, with the Panthers supposedly having the toughest schedule in the league.

Beat the Patriots at home on Monday night would be huge, big stage. This is his moment and this team's moment.

Patriots team aren't what they used to be but they are currently 3-0. That's what well coached teams do, they find a way to win with interchangeable parts....and make no mistake, I hate them.

That's the difference, Bill is 3-0 in games he should have lost, Rivera 1-2 in two losses he could have influenced wins.

9-7 or better and he stays, less than that he goes.
