If Star could somehow win DROY

Star has been a dominant force up the middle but it's almost guaranteed that he won't win DROY. NT isn't flashy nor sexy. Lotulelei would have to amass big numbers to even be considered.

This. DROY is usually a position that can pile up stats - LBs pile up takcles, DEs can pile up sacks, DBs can get a few INTs. It's tough for a DT, especially a run stuffer, to put up the type of stats needed to get DROY.

If Star finishes the season with 5-6 sacks and the Panthers finish with a record around 10-6, I could see Star winning DROY.

 

It'll take wins though.

Mel Farr won OROY and Lem Barney won DROY in 1968, followed by Earl McCullogh winning OROY 1968 for the Lions. Of course there were only 16 teams at the time.

 

Urlacher won DROY in 2000 and Anthony Thomas won OROY in 2001 for the Bears.

I'd rather White shock the world and be a dominate CB, win DROY, and make the playoffs.  Nothing against Star but we need a CB worth a poo.

star is on track for 50 tackles and 6 sacks... and that's assuming he continues to be rotational to the extent he is currently. i'd wager he'll get more snaps down the stretch as he becomes accustomed to everything.

Sheldon Richardson and Star both have legit shots of being DROY this year. Currently #1 and #2 in rookie defensive lineman rankings, (K. Short #4 on the list).

Suh had 5 less sacks than the NFL leader and had a ton of tackles. Star will have to put up numbers something like that to win from the defensive tackle position. I don't even care if he wins or not, if he continues to play the way he is now he is going to be dominate for years to come.
