David Newton article on Panthers Domination!

I have to say, man I am starting to like David Newton the writer for ESPN NFCS Blog/ Panthers.  Dude is way better then Pat.  He seems to me neutral when analyzing whether its good or bad.  But doesn't seem to enjoy beating us down like most media members.

 

His latest article praises us for beating the poo out of the Giants, and not the Giants just having a bad day.

 

 

 

But remember, the Giants trailed the high-powered Denver Broncos only 17-16 until late in the third quarter, so this team hasn't been a complete pushover. 

 

 

 

 

The Giants might be bad, but they put up 31 against Cowboys and 23 vs Denver, and like Newton pointed out, the score was 17-16 late in the 3rd QTR vs Denver.  I mean this same Giants team beat the crap out of us with our starters last year and they had backup WR's eat us alive.  Now our backup DB's seemed to stick with there man long enough to let our DL dominate.

 

 

The Panthers deserve some credit here, too.

 

 

I would say that is the best statement I have heard about our win in the last 24 hours.  I am excited about the diamonds in the rough that we found.  Melvin White and Robert Lester played great, when most (including myself) thought ELI was going to carve them up.  Give the DL credit, but they only got 1 sack in the 2nd half, the pass rush slowed down IMO, but even our young DB's kept it going.

The Panthers deserve credit and that includes Rivera and Shula.  I love how people crap all over them when they make mistakes but when they call one hellava game it is :See it was only 1 game, just wait until next game.  Well it was only 2 games where we struggled, and one was against a Seattle team that has dominated everyone else. I don't see anyone saying lets wait and see. Funny how folks use a double standard here.  Truth is that Rivera and the team have won 6 out of their last 9 games and look much better than last year.

You act like this is Rivera's first year. He has won 5 games now while not eliminated mathematically from the playoffs. Fans had every right to be upset starting out looking awful again.

 

Hopefully Rivera keeps a winning mentality, not defending against a loss mentality that has plagued his entire head coaching career.

Winning a blowout isn't the issue. Rivera has a laundry list of close games lost late in the fourth quarter.

 

The Seattle loss was on the players. Buffalo was one more loss solely on Rivera and his late game blunders by playing not to lose. He still has yet to disprove the notion that he cannot win the close games. Only time will tell.

Hopefully you are right.  It isn't worth going into a discussion about 2011 and how we didn't have an offseason, the lockout and so on.  As for last year I think he was too conservative.  I hope he has learned.  Don't you??

No. That is your take on what I think not mine. In all cases the players get the credit. Coaches can only put their players in a position to play well.  The players have to actually do it.
