Is there any state more diverse than NC?

Born and raised in Southern California on the beach, but an hour to the mountains, another hour to the desert and an hour and a half to the city (LA).

 

The biggest difference in lifestyle? There are seasons here in NC. It gets cold and poo... in Cali I was surfing on Christmas Day.

The biggest difference in people? Nobody in Cali cares what anyone else is doing. People are far more tolerant and have the "live and let live" mentality. In my opinion, people on the east coast are far more judgmental than out west.

I don't know for sure but I don't think that's the reason major studios haven't settled here. We have Screengems but we don't have the constant output of productions outside of your occasional iron man threequel.

the overall pool for movie producing is lower in NC than Cali. from equipment to studios etc.

 

it has grown but its not just about incentives or tax breaks or lack there of.

 

but Homeland filming here steadily is hopefully changing the overall perception.

Maine is pretty diverse. We have beaches, dense forests, some pretty major mountain ranges, farmland, and some smaller urban cities such as Portland and Bangor. We definitely experience all four seasons in Maine every year. 

 

Yeah, but summer is only 2 weeks long.

 

I spent about 16 months in Maine, including 2 winters, coldest I've ever been in my entire life. On Memorial Day we got over a foot of snow.... but it is beautiful country.

 

Another thing about Maine. I've been around the world a few times and have encountered people from all over, including the backwoods of South Carolina and Georgia. There is no accent more difficult to understand than a woodsman from Maine. I'd never heard anything like it before and nothing like it since.

New York City. Idk after that.

I know that Screengems is the "biggest" studio outside of hollywood sizewise so that's what you might be thinking of.

That might be it. I grew up in Wilmington, and there was always filming happening somewhere. My middle school was always being used, they recorded for East Bound & Down in my neighborhood in the first season or two, they filmed some movie and used one of my family's empty properties to put trailers and stuff, and there'd always be famous people around town. So it seems like it'd be a pretty big industry, at least in Wilmington.

when I was in high school, I dated a girl from Maine. She talked normal, no problem understanding her. but when I called and her dad answered, I couldn't understand a thing he said. One day I thought he said she was getting sugar. Turns out, he said taking a shower.
