I don't really understand the "doghouse" logic when professional athletes get paid.  There are still a few guys out there that want to play regardless of the money [Keek and Cam come to mind], but the majority could care less as long as their pay check is coming in.  Want to fix their attitudes?  Hit them where it hurts--the wallet.  Granted the NFL already did this to Frank, but the coaching logic itself never made much sense to me.  Just my two cents.

You don't play. You don't demonstrate your value, which makes it harder to get paid. You try being an agent and get a big pay day for your player by saying "Look he's really good. He was just in the 'doghouse'."

 

Plus, it makes it more likely you'll get cut. NFL players don't get that much guaranteed money compared with other sports, and there are often incentive based contracts. 

 

Not playing absolutely affects player's wallets.
