So, here's the thing. The Panthers had a helluva game yesterday, and I am as pleased as anyone, but one game---even a blowout game---does not fundamentally change anything regarding my overall perceptions of problems and/or solutions regarding the team.

They Key is consistency. Give me that effort on a consistent basis, and I will change my tune entirely. Until then, you'll just receive a reprieve from criticism.

Consistency is the key!

Given that most peoples perception were negatively affected by only 2 games then this game gives some balance to the equation.  Which team are we?  That does remain to be seen.  I look forward to the next 3 or 4 games which should go a long way to determine who we are at this point.

We should have been equally as cautious about making grand declarations after just the first two games.

But some of us weren't.

Perhaps. Hindsight is always 20:20. Our history does not necessarily breed optimism. Like I said in a thread last week, "fool me once, shame on you..."

Edit: Nothing about the history of the Rivera Era demands that we be "equally as cautious" in our ratio of criticism to optimism. I can easily argue to the contrary.

One game doesn't make or break a coach.

A pattern of doing things to cost games does.  Rivera still has that pattern (he didn't have a chance to break it yesterday, at least not in a meaningful situation) and until he breaks it.. ie going for 4th and short in a game winning situation, I'll still fault him.

At the very least though, the staff deserves credit for letting Cam be Cam yesterday, something I and others have criticized them heavily for this season so far.

Yeah, man, I was thinking to myself, "How in the hell do you fug up Cam Newton?" Here is a Heisman trophy winner, and national champion on two levels.

i still don't think Rivera is the answer as head coach. This game is an anomaly in the grand scheme of things. If he shows this consistency of trusting his players to get it done, i will be all for keeping him. He doesn't have that history so i'm cautious, even though this game was an absolute joy to watch on many different levels.

Im just glad the Coaching staff didnt listen to the fans again this week and instead did what THEY thought was the way to win the game.. Ya know kinda like week 1.  Kudos to the gameplan and preparation during the week the Coaches put in. This game wouldn't of happened had they not of done that.

From now on.. Don't read the newspaper and don't listen to sports radio.. Just watch game tape and keep it moving.

Rivera makes mistakes and sometimes coaches too much by the book.  But I suspect that every player knew that if they lost Rivera's job could be at stake.  I think they won it not only for themselves but for him as well.  Maybe it is me but any coach who instills that kind of loyalty and effort out of his troops might be worth holding on.  It remains to be seen if we were that good or the Giants were that bad.  Still the players want to play for Rivera and believe in him which has to count for quite a bit.
