why it has been so hard to find a legit #2 WR & #3 WR

let me just start by saying i LOVE me some Smitty.. he is easily the single best player the Panthers have ever had.. i think he will be our first HOFer

 

but i think it has been so difficult to find a complementary WR because he demands the ball so much, and rightfully so, he makes plays!! but sometimes we have all noticed Jake, Cam and the numerous QBs in between have been forcing him the ball to satisfy his appetite..

 

now, this is obviously not the sole reason why it has been so tough, but i think it has not made it any easier that he is in the QB's coach, the QB himself ears to make sure they feed the HOFer to be.. hence the over looked wide-open guy down field and incompletions and INTs forced in Smitty's direction..

I think when Smith injured his hip, Cam stopped staring him down and started looking for Lafell and Ginn because he knew Smith was not 100% healthy.

I think that he liked what he had in Moose and Smith, and kept trying to replicate that with slow possession type no. 2's.  Key, Jarrett, Moose back again, etc....

 

We need a big boy to play the outside, and help Cam in the red zone, but they need to be able to run as well.

It's called game planning. Ginn has opened up the entire offense for us and teams are making a mistake by not covering him with their number one. We are just game planning baby. Gotta love it considering only 3 throws out of twenty two in week one weren't to Smitty or Olsen. Take advantage of a safety over Smitty. Then when the safety starts rolling over to Ginn get it to smith. Then when safeties split find Ginn up the seam. Then when safeties split and linebackers follow Olsen pound the rock.

Smitty and Moose were both #1's in my book. Thats why they both did so well. Like CJ and Kraken or Julio and Roddy White. Both dominant enough to be number ones and the opposition just cant account for both of them.

Smitty has been ready to take a step back for a couple of years, there's just not been anybody else consistently open with the hands and the heart to compete except for Greg Olsen. That is a GM problem, plain and simple.  

 

Ginn has done OK, but he has always had suspect hands, and LaFell has basically been a red zone target who gets open about as much as the ABC store on Sundays.  We need a receiver who has number-one and every-down potential---someone who is far from a dime per dozen (someone like Josh Gordon).
