My thoughts exactly.  Something I witnessed today though while the offense was moving down the field.  The cameras showed a shot of Rivera and I noticed, he was just watching the offense as if a spectator himself.  There was also in front of Rivera, a guy speaking into his headset, it seems giving out the next play for the offense. (I'm assuming that was Shula)  What I take from this is that Rivera has little comment when it comes to the offense.  It seems he gives his OC full control for the most part concerning offense.  I don't like that aspect concerning Rivera.  If you're a head coach, you should be involved in every aspect of the team.  Dude look like a fan watching the offense out there, or better yet, just looked like a DC.

 

 

So my final take is Rivera is a DC, who has the title of HC.
