If you lose you are going to get flamed either way. For example, if we didn't get it and lost in OT I would have flamed him for not kicking the field goal, and I am willing to bet that there would have been many that would be eager to pile on Rivera along side me.

Maybe even some of the same people who are mad that we did kick a field goal. ;)

Sure, but it is the difference in NEEDING a TD or field goal.

Mist of the completions on the final drive were to the RBs so not sure even if we had a healthy secondary it would have made a difference, except of course on the final play

Kicking the FG and making it a TD to win was the right call. Sometimes your team just has to man up and make some fuging plays.

and it's 80 yards...in someone else's stadium...against our weak and beaten up secondary relying on an LB coming off his second year on IR who is recovering from microfracture surgery and nowhere near 100% and who has never been particularly good in coverage not just to play LB, but to play nickel.

yeah, with our track record in those situations and us being as beat up and relying on beason to cover WRs....i'm not liking those chances at all. i know this team far to well.

 

now when you've got the best QB in the league at getting one yard on third and fourth down in a situation where he needs to get just one yard...yeah, i like those odds.

It wasn't 4th and 1 but Chicago also beat us with right at 2 minutes to go. We have never won a game that came down to the final possession under Rivera.

Yes we have. We beat the Saints the first time last year by picking Brees off on their last possession.

And yet with all that...it took a perfect poo storm of events for us to lose.

1 tackle in bounds...the RB actually catches that screen pass...Keek keeps his hands to himself...someone has the balls to call a TO on that last play...

Any of those things happen and we very well could win.

Most up in here seem to be in full fret mode. The season is over, new coach coming, Cam will be gone, and any other negative thing they can come up with.

Me? I see a team that is 1 play in each game from being 2-0. I would much rather think in terms of close, and keep my sanity. Than think in terms of burning down the house, and being miserable.

But then again. I've been a Lions fan for almost 50 years. I learned long ago that you cannot get all worked up over losses. They will eat you alive. I like life too much to fret over a football game...especially since I have no control over said game.

That, and I find all this fretting amusing. So right now, I am in hog heaven. I show a lot of these posts to the wife, (Who hates sports in general.) and she just laughs. Proves her point that sports are too important.

Maybe we will actually take some chances if we are blown out. I'm interested to see if that will happen. I want to see what this team and OC look like when taking risks. I'd like to see some bold play calling to work on our clutch situations like 4th downs and what not. I mean we don't take any risks, to where I think that Rivera might make this team a choke team when they do finally take the chance. They're a choke team now because they don't take chances.

As for David Newton, I can take him or leave him. He's a journalist and half the time it seems he writes one article then contradicts it the next week if not the next day. Either there isn't enough news to report or he's wishy-washy.

Has nothing to do with what any coach said. It's quite simple. If you go for it on fourth down or hell even go for the first down on third down your playing to win because at that point a first down wins the game. Or you can kick a field goal and try to prevent the other team from wining the game. at that point your out there just trying not to lose it because you gave them the ball and a shot to win the game. You let them get off the mat and they knocked your ass out.
