Greg Cosell: Cam has no consistency

Absolutely no one has refused to accept that. Literally every single person in the entire world knows he isn't doing well. But the people who actually know what's going on in the world around them have made the observations as to why, and many have made posts and threads that perfectly outline it. Others just say ignorant crap like he 'doesn't seem to have good vision or anticipation in his throws this year."

Really dude?

I'm open to discuss because you just admitted he isn't doing well. What's your opinion on where he's lacking?

Also it would be nice if you would address the rest of that post that you conveniently ignored.

Sure I would like to see Tolbert get more action in the passing game.  It would just wear the defense down more with him running over them.  The issue with receivers is Cam is targeting Smitty and Olsen at the beginning of the games.  If I know this the opposing team defense knows this.  Lafell is a legit WR after him we have scrubs.

so I reject that cam is having a bad year so far.

His game against Seattle wasn't a bad game on his part, I would actually argue that from a perspective of Cam's play alone, it was an awesome game.  The playcalls?  Yeah, sure left something to be desired.

Buffalo?  He flat out missed people, and he didn't have a good game overall.

I just think this is much ado about nothing so far.  I feel like the only people that are willing to say "Cam's got this and this issue this year so far!" are people that were always quick to point out his flaws.  He's had one good game, one bad game, let's just see how things go before freaking out.

fwiw, we knew he wasn't polished when we drafted him.  he's still surpassed tons of expectations.  just because the *team* has floundered does not mean that cam is at fault.

There were plenty of options besides Rivera, and we limited them greatly by staying in the same archaic mindset of "must hire defensive coordinators". Of course it didn't help our owner didn't even consider Jim Harbaugh.

You can't really be that naive to believe Shula and Dorsey were the "only" guys we could get. Come on.

Panthers philosophy at the time was wanting a NFL DC as head coach.  So Harbaugh was out.  Who do you think we could have gotten beside Shula and Dorsey?

No experienced coach worth anything wasn't going to come here.  Not with a new GM that didn't selecet Rivera and had no say if we kept him or not.

Cam and Tolbert really haven't had much of a chance to develop any chemistry at all. Mike missed most of TC and all of preseason. Plus his first year here we had Cam lead our team in rushing with three good running backs.

There definitely appear to be trust issues between Cam and targets not named Steve Smith and Greg Olsen. I think him and Ginn will make a good combo this season as they build chemistry with one another. It's only week 2.

Lafell as much as I like him, is not a legit WR yet. If he was, we would have already extended him.

He's lacking in that he's either not being allowed, or is refusing to play like Cam Newton. We're running the exact opposite of the offensive system we need to be running this year to have success. The threat of Cam running opens up the passing game, but he has only run the ball like 8 times in 2 games, and several of those were designed. He needs to scramble and make things happen. That is when Cam shines, because he's a playmaker, not a pocket passer.

The offense called so far suits neither our QB, our WRs, nor our O-line. That is why Cam hasn't looked good. It has nothing to do with his vision, or his throws. He has the same vision and arm he had when he was setting records. What has changed is the offense.

It's a square peg in a round whole. Put Peyton manning in RGIII's offense, and you'll be left wondering what the hell happened to the best QB of all time? Why does he suck so bad? Because you design your offense to fit the skills of your players, and Shula has failed miserably at the task.

Cam's had good pockets a few times this year and flat out missed his throws.

Not all of his bad throws were because of the pocket collapsing.

I'm willing to overlook the Ginn overthrows, they've not really worked together much to be consistent, but Smtih and Olsen?

This comes down to our owner. His philosophy has gotten us exactly 4 winning seasons.

Things need to change. Now.

Sad part...once Chico is fired, JR will just hire another DC.

I would rather have a high power offense now.  With the way the NFL changed the rules it favors them.  Also I know if we are down by 14 in the 3rd quarter the game is lost now.  With a great offense they can comeback and when it.  But not with a Defensive minded coach who thinks his defense can hold a 3 point lead.

Cam's also made throws and had them dropped.  This is the nature of the game.  The previous game, Olsen dropped two completions that would have probably given the team at least 3 points and 50 yards.

Meanwhile, our offense has been run at a terrible tempo with what seems like no adjustments made in game...
