Greg Cosell: Cam has no consistency

Russel Wilson lobs up a wounded duck as he's getting tackled, his receiver comes back and makes a miracle play on the ball, and Wilson is brilliant.

Cam lobs up a wounded duck as he's getting tackled, his receiver is smothered and watches the pass hit the dirt, and Cam is inconsistent.

Oh yeah...Wilson is lucky to have a receiving core of Golden Taint and a one legged Sidney Rice to bail him out. Face facts, Cam can't see open receivers and if he does, they appear to be ten yards further up the field. At least Wilson throws balls that receivers can come back to, maybe if we strap rockets to our receivers asses they will catch the apparently perfect and beautifully thrown balls flown in from our very own Cam Newton.

Well he's right but that stuff comes in time.  One thing does concern me though, his best play came in his first year with barely any offseason to prepare.  If anything it points to the coaches making him worse(though it's impossible to tell at this point).

our offense has no consistency yet we blame Cam for everything. the seahawks, 49ers, or the redskins would trade their QBs for Cam in a heartbeat. its not Cams fault our offense is like watching a monkey try build a nuclear weapon.

That is BLIND homerism. Neither one of those teams would trade their QB for Cam. Who would? Browns, Rams, Bengals, Cowboys, Eagles, Texans, Jags, Raiders, Chiefs, Titans, Bucs...maybe I am missing one or two, but those are the teams sir.

Man, before this season I would have agreed with you but there's no way in hell anyone would prefer Cam over Wilson or Kaepernick at this moment in time.

This place is unbearable sometimes man. The guy has the best passer rating and completion percentage of his career and you constantly have to here how bad he is. I'm tired of talking about it honestly. There are easily 15 starting qbs that are a lot worse off than Cam. But this fan base criticizes their qb more than any I've seen.

If Deangelo doesn't fumble and if Norman didn't sucked we'd probably be talking about Cam having his best and most consistent year. Turnovers are gone and he's really been more efficient but 0-2 and its Cam sucks.

Cam is the most criticized player in sports I've seen since Lebron James, but notice his critics disappeared when he got rings. If we win games we simply aren't talking about this trash every fuging day.

A word to those who read so much into these kinds of statements: the difference between Cam's "consistency" and an elite QB like Drew Brees or Peyton Manning is a difference of about 10% of snaps. A significant amount to be sure, but not one that is insurmountable and not unprecedented for a young QB. Furthermore, he has surrounding issues with talent and blocking that erode his chances to further establish consistency. We're early in year 3 and he made great strides over the latter part of last season, he'll get there soon enough.
