Greg Cosell: Cam has no consistency

How do we know when he should have gotten a TD instead of a FG? And should we also count when we should have punted or gotten a FG and instead got a TD?

Since Cam has been here the Panthers have been among the best in the NFL in converting red zone trips to TDs.

So I am.unclear as to what the issue is on getting TDs when we should.

How has the Panthers done so far in the redzone this year?

I think Cam's short/intermediate accuracy has increased a great deal. He has learned to complete those passes to his RBs that he used to miss horribly.

Cam is indeed improving his weaknesses. He's playing alot like he played towards the end of last year. The biggest problems I see with him right now is touch on the deep ball and dropping in passes that require him to fit it in between defenders at different depths - might be Dorsey's reason for the trash cans.

Another thing I noticed is Cam lacks confidence in his receivers, other than 88 and 89. He's locking onto them and not going through his read progressions because he doesn't trust the others to make plays for him. And rightfully so. They've let him down alot this season.

If anyone's inconsistent, it's Lafell. He has to get going. You need more from your #2. I would honestly look to get Ginn more playing time until Lafell shakes whatever's urking him.

I really think Cam needs an offensive-minded coach that will teach him not just to read plays and go through progressions, but how to out think a defense and set them up for what he wants to do. This offense is playing checkers and the good offenses are playing chess. That's normally a charecteristic of defensive minded coaches. Keep the offense simple and beat the man in front of you.

just to clarify, is cam responsible when our defense gives up a game winning drive, too?

I'm just going to say what everyone else is afraid to say. As much as we blame Cam for being the leader of the offense, Luke needs to start taking some blame. Luke was awful on that last drive and unlike Cam he doesn't have a bunch of scrubs playing in front of him. Leader of the defense maybe he should have been the one calling a timeout when he seen there was confusion.

Blame needs to start being spread around. The defensive line is suppose to be he biggest strength of the team but they were bums against buffalo. Cam overthrew receivers and missed some opportunities but Ginn fuged him on one throw.

It takes 11 men to lose a football game we need to stop pointing the finger at one person.

Yeah Luke has 4 scrubs playing behind him.

I agree. Though I do think the rookie DTs are playing very very well. CJ and Kraken didn't bring it last week like they usually do. But Star played fantastic. He will be compared to Ngata sooner than we thought.

Beason gave up some big plays. It's like he forgets his responsibilities at times. I think he's still in MLB mode at times.

Ginn gets better separation than any of our receivers. Cam needs to start looking his way more. Lafell is not getting it done.

He is when he should have gotten a TD instead of a FG.  Then the defense wouldn't have been in that position.  With most of the starting secondary out.  But the other issue is how in the world could you not rush a rookie QB.  Send a LB up the middle to get extra pressure!

I was thinking the same thing. Isn't that the universally accepted game plan for all rookie QBs - at least until they force you out of it?

But then I noticed we suck at man-to-man. Receivers beat our DBs/LBs in less than 2 seconds. Though I guess we could have run some zone blitzes or something to pressure him.

Newton played one year of legit college football and we knowingly drafted a very raw player.

This guy isn't willing me he is raw with work needed? Wow!!!! This guy has such insight!!

The raw inconsistent kid is on pace to rewrite history books....that isn't bad.

Context matters and he ignores a lot

We have a very good offensive line - and Manuel has excellent peripheral vision and a quick ball release.  All things I don't see in your team and qb

The Bills oline is alot better than I thought. But if you're trying to insinuate that Manuel is on Cam's level - really?

The Bills receiving core is pretty good as a unit. Woods made some huge plays. And most of Manuel's completions were to guys with 2-3 yards of separation. In other words, they were wide open.

The Bills are better at offensive play calling as well.
