Greg Cosell: Cam has no consistency

After reviewing the first two weeks' game tape, here is what Cosell had to say. It ain't good.

"You know, every once in a while, he teases with his arm talent, but there's no consistency to his play," Cosell said. "And there's two things that you need ... No. 1, he's very erratic with his accuracy and, No. 2, he does not see the field well. And it's really hard to be a quality NFL quarterback when you're lacking those two things."

He does not throw the ball with consistency. There's very little refinement to his game. He's just a big man with a strong arm," Cosell said on this week's FantasyGuru.com Podcast.

I think this speaks to the quality of his coaches, because I don't think anyone questions Cam's work ethic or desire to improve.

well, his QB coach left him for a better paying gig.

shula should have stayed as his QB coach and the team should have hired a different OC.

i thought having shula as his OC was supposed to be better for him.

but hey....at least cam is learning how to be a game manager and he's also learning how to throw into a bucket.

Rayzor and I discussed in another thread... I think these coaches are trying to shoehorn Cam into playing the way they want not the way he plays best.

He's trying to think too much instead of just playing... Cam is more of an instinctual type player...

Look what happens when we either speed up the tempo or he gets in trouble and has to scramble... he's brilliant.

Brilliant, no. He does amazing things when he runs. But can he scramble and make a pinpoint pass over 10 yards, fug no. He's no Russell Wilson or Big Ben when it comes to throwing on the run, throwing as in, you know being a QB.

Yes, he can and does.

Giving cam a few very quick high percentage passes once in a while would help.

Giving him a bunch of worthless passing plays that take 5 seconds to develop is killing his career.

When the season is over Cam needs another couple months with Weinke in Florida and come back to OTA's when a legit offensive coaching staff is in place.

    • Bryce put it in a spot only his guy could get it only for David Moore to drop it. T_T Tremble and Horn both struggled yesterday and that killed me since they're two of my favourite players. Tommy knows he has to come down with this one. Folks were understandably saying that JT would've caught that had he not gotten hurt a few plays earlier. The more I look at this play, the more I think that Bryce made the right decision throwing it out the back of the endzone. He could have tried to laser it in to Thielen, but that safety is lurking awfully close inside. Insuring the field goal here after a 44sec drive to end the half was the right move.
    • Except Bryce was the main reason we were in it
    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
