What the hell is on Gettleman's mind?

Will Gettlemen pay Cam? That is the assumption.  Here is what I would do, until he shows me that he is a true franchise QB:

Let him play this season and next season.  No extension.  Draft a QB.  Franchise Cam and try to trade him (if he doesn't fit in).

Cam has done nothing to earn a $20 million per year deal.  However, he might  have value in another system.   We do not want to find ourselves in a situation where we have no options and have to pay him.

I just think it is a mistake to say, at this time, that we can count on paying Cam $20 million per season starting next year or even the next.  He is not worth it---yet.

Another thought about Gettlemen:  I think his moves have been excellent.  His draft was excellent, his hard-ball approach to the ridiculous Hurney contracts was great.   Even when Marty had cap room, when did he ever do this well?"

Chase Blackburn,  LB

Quinten Mikell, SS

Dwan Edwards, DT

Capt. Munnerlyn CB

DJ Moore, CB

Ted Ginn, WR/KR

Hixon WR

Travelle Wharton, G/T

Scott, G

Mitchell S

Never even close.  And Sure he created some dead money--actually, Hurney did---but to do this while cutting $25 million in cap room is tremendous.

The draft also showed vision, getting starting-caliber players in the fifth and sixth rounds-people went ape when we drafted a LB and RB.  However, it is looking as if Beason and at least one of Double trouble will be gone.

Gettlemen's next move will be a trade or a free agent to play RT.  Bell has 1 more game.

I'm not at all certain that he is all in with this team, or with Cam as far as that goes.Don't know what hIs plan is, maybe just to blow the whole thing up and start from scratch. It has been said that it is unwise to get attached to individual players, maybe we should heed that advice with our new GM.

i just hope to jesus and mary and all the saints that gettleman isn't just a jerry yes-man in disguise. all my hope would be forever vanished in the wind

Yes man or not, some of Gettleman's comments have leaned toward him sharing much of JR's aging mindset and philosophy. Even if Gettleman is in charge of the head coaching hire, I fear it may be more of the same.

I basically agree with you. G-man made some good, solid moves during the draft and very "smart" moves in FA. His cap management has been excellent, and his overall personnel moves seem adequate taking the cap into account. But, where G-man gambled---the O-line, our receiving corps, and our defensive backfield (which hopefully has been half-way fixed by reacquiring Florence)---has pretty much left us in a pickle in regards to contending for the postseason this year.  Furthermore, in top dawg's world, I would like a GM who is not so endeared to a certain philosophy that he fails to make adjustments during a season where he put the team, and particularly the QB, on notice by saying "It's time to win."  I mean, it's still early in the season, before a BYE week no less, and we've seen some serious problems and/or lingering issues that don't lend themselves toward winning now, so why wait before a team with an attitude and nasty pass rushers come to town before delving into FA?

Oh, I know, when Gettleman was talking about Cam Newton and winning now he did say, "I'm a big believer in letting nature take its course."

This may explain some things, and may not lead to the immediate answers that some of us are looking for.

No one is getting a Moore or Britt for a 5th-6th round pick. More like a 2nd-3rd.

Gman has brought in enough bodies to help get this team into the playoffs even though they're not big names. The player have to execute and the coaches have to coach. I just think that Gman is really forcing Cam to show him that he is the future of this franchise. He wants to see if Cam can carry this team on his own. Gman isnt going to go bring another WR or RB in when the "answer is already on the roster".
