I'm hearing RIvera is out if we lose Sunday.

The talent problems on the offense and secondary will still be a reality no matter who the head coach is. A new coach faster on the uptake during the actual game may mean another win or two, but this team needs a retooling in areas that a new coach can't fix right now. Another full draft and some Key FA pickups will bring us much closer.

Then how do you explain all the really close losses due to brain farts.

Its coaching and getting the players prepped and focused, not the talent level.

Exactly this is the problem. Talent is there (of course with room for improvement), but losing 14 out of 16 close ones cant´t be lack of talent, it has to be coaching. Still howe we will win and still hope RR gets the boot asap.

I was good with Rivera getting this offseason and start of the 2013 season! I had hopes maybe he had grown with time to reflect during the offseason! However, these first two games have made it plainly obvious that he is sticking to the same script! Kind of like a rocky relationship where one party always promises to change but never does!

RR's game philosphy and management isn't working and he is to stubborn to deviate. It's time to move on, for the sake of both parties involved. Who knows, maybe Wilks is a hidden gem!

For Jerry its a matter of $$$'s

If the Panthers lose on Sunday, they won't be able to give tickets away. With he nice weather coming up, families will be heading to the mountains, not to the stadium. There goes concession sales.

An interim coach has a chance to ignite some real interest and support. And if they do win, they have a chance to make a decent profit this season.

Do you honestly think Wilks could be worse at game strategy and management?

Of course not.  And you didn't even mention the draw that a "Local boy makes good" story line brings.

Not that I'm cynical or anything...

I'm leaning towards patty y on this. JR makes all the decisions, Gettleman is a figure head just like Hurney was. They get input on draft picks and so forth, but everything comes down to a final decision fron JR.

Gettleman being picked as the GM just showed that to be true still. The moves the team has made haven't changed since Richardson came back after his surgery.

Fixed it for you.  Prior to that happening, we did things like signing Lucas and Hartwig (two big name free agents, at the time), and even went out and got Keyshawn when we needed quick receiver help.  Hurney generates a lot of hate here now, but in his first five years on the job he did a hell of a good job.  It wasn't until the Peppers thing happened that his wheels fell off, and that was right in the middle of JR coming back.  Can you just hear JR saying, "Whatever you do, don't let him walk!"?

Only thing I think hurts....is he schemes well around our defensive weaknesses. We have some big ones.....and he smoke and mirrored us to a top 10 D last year.

I think that is Rivera not McD

That top-10 ranking is the definition of smoke and mirrors.  Whats the one thing we blame the last 2 years on?  The Defense.  Rivera knew how to manipulate our defense to get the right stats yet the results of a dumpster fire rolling down a hill into a landfill fire.  Rivera is to our defense as a crafty CPA is to a tax return.  Move numbers here, write this off, deduct that and voila! You got yourself a top Defense.  Oh yeah but you still owe the IRS $100K.

Could be. I am only leaning the Rivera is gone route from what I hear. JR and Gettleman haven't told anyone directly on whats in the works, so all we have to go on is other indicators from within the org.

I will say that one thing I have learned from my own contacts within the organization is that those in the mythical "know" are extremely far and few between. JR plays his cards so close to the vest he can't even look at them. How much warning did we get before Hurney was canned last year?
