Panthers 2014 Free Agents

Per rotoworld...

His contract was reworked last offseason and $6.875m no longer guaranteed.  If we cut him, we'll get hit with only $1.5m this year and $2.5m next year.  Stewart is a goner... Gettlemagic.

If this is true it would be huge. I have my doubts though because other sites indicate he is still owed a ton of guaranteed money (something like $19 million).

Let's hope Rotoworld is correct.

Gross is the key person the panthers need to resign. I am shocked that he is so overlooked and undervalued. He has been a probowl/borderline probowl player in the 10+ years he has been on this team. Plus I dont understand all these comments about moving him to RT; he is still one of the best at the LT position. Do you really think a kid out of college can beat out Gross for his spot? Just look at luke jockel and eric fisher from last year (top 2 picks) they had a very average year and struggled.

I personally don't think OL is as big of an issue as most think, as long as we resign Gross. A line of Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Amini, plus either a mid round pick or mid level FA signing is more than enough. I think we should let our young linemen develop more and than address it harder next offseason. I think the bigger issue is getting Cam more weapons. He could have the best OL in football but if he has no one to throw to it won't matter.

If memory serves correct, we are due a draft pick from the Giants for the Beason deal.  Nicks knows Gettleman and wants to come back closer to home.

If the Giants could work a sign and trade to get their pick back, then Nicks could come to Carolina and not cost us big bucks.  We then could let Lafell go and draft a WR.  We resign Ginn for special teams and back-up for Smitty.  Resign Hixon if cheap allowing us to go for O-line.  Draft for OT on the right side and groom for LT to replace Gross when he retires.  The rest of the draft goes to defensive backs.  I believe Gettleman will improve our team with this his second draft.  I would let Cam play next year on his current contract and see if he can improve.  If he does, pay the man what he is worth. You see what Manning has done for the Broncos.

IDK if I'm just sentimental after this year, but I love our team. I'd keep all those in bold, plus LaFell and Hardy (if doesn't blow our budget). I like GH's attitude but he goes missing some big games.

I'm going to go ahead and kill this misconception about hady right here and now, as far as playoff seeding goes in the regular season he had his two biggest games when we needed him most, in the Saints and Atlanta game he combined for 7 sacks and countless pressures we would have been a wild card spot without him, he clearly changed the atlanta game especially.

I know he wasn't much there for the 49'ers part two but he clearly from reports wasn't 100% for the game in which he was lined up against two pro bowlers if there is a game I'd be willing to give him a pass in all things considered it's that one.

It's a long list but look at it closely: most of these guys are at the end of their careers and/or easily replaceable. Hardy, Gross, Ginn, Mitchell and Munnerlyn are the only ones that Gettleman sees as must re-sign.

Everyone will be talking about Hakeem Nicks this off-season but the more realistic option will be adding another receiving TE. Keep an eye out for guys like Dennis Pitta or Ed Dickson from the Ravens.

Yup. Cutting Stewart would accelerate 19 mil in dead money. His cap hit is only 6 mil.

Cutting Williams would accelerate 9.6 mil in dead money. His cap hit is also 6 mil. Godfrey would have 2 mil in dead money, his cap hit is 7.1 mil which saves us 5.1 mil.

To sum it up, Stewart will absolutely, positively not be cut. No way around it.

Williams is very, very unlikely. Even as a June 1st cut we'd only be saving 1.3 mil AND we carry over 4.7 mil in dead money towards 2015. Saving just over a million for Williams isn't worth it an likely won't be done.

Godfrey is most likely a cap casualty. No chance in hell he gets that 7.1 mil. He will either take a significant pay cut, or he will simply be replaced by the addition of our newer safeties who have performed quite well. I would say he's gone.

I used a cap calculator today and it showed that making Stewart a June 1st cut would have zero cap impact.
