Panthers 2014 Free Agents

Here are some reasonable free agents from outside the Panthers which we probably get, separated by position

Receivers

Denario Alexander(SD)- Has injury issues, missed the entire season but a big bodied receiver who can go up and get the balls Cam sails.

Damian Williams(TN)- Stuck in a log jam at receiver in TN, good speed and quickness, 6"1 with 38in vertical.

Josh Morgan(WAS)- Big soft hands, who is 220lbs so can dish out some punishment

Fred Davis(WAS)- Injury prone TE who has all the talent in the world. Could be a good number 2.

Offensive Tackles

Jonathon Martin(MIA)- Talented Stanford grad who got beat up on in Miami, most likely will get released. Gross will need to approve.

J'Marcus Webb(MIN)- Cant possibly be worse than Bell

Jared Veldheer(OAK)- He has shined in Oakland and anyone who does that deserves a shot on a real team.

Defensive End

Jared Allen(MIN)- Aging player chasing rings, which wont happen in Minnesota

Anthony Spencer(DAL)- Dallas cant afford to keep anyone, its open season on their free agents

Secondary

Corey Graham(BAL)- good corner in the slot if we lose Captain

Eric Wright(SF)- Talented corner who has had an off couple of years

Nolan Carroll(MIA)- Hopefully he wants out of Miami, because he is darn good

Brandon Browner(SEA)- Why not?

Bernard Pollard(TEN)- How much fun would it be to see him lay out Jimmy Graham at the bank?

On the Panthers:

Gross article: http://espn.go.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/4491/gross-says-rivera-wants-me-back-for-sure

I think we keep Gross and Mitchell.  Those two are the important FAs for us imo.  Gross had one of his best seasons period in 2013.

Outside the team:

Sam Shields and Danario Alexander are both very appealing.

Alexander: A productive 27 yo 6'5 receiver coming off an injury so we can probably get him for a decent price.  The next Charger convert?

Shields: I don't know about the scheme fit for Sam but he's a great cornerback yet expendable with the Pack having Hayward, House, and Co.

The Panthers must re-sign Hardy. He is irreplaceable and a cornerstone player. I don't know how it gets done but it simply must get done.

There isn't a WR in FA that will be an upgrade over Hixon at his value cost, except maybe Robert Meachem. And it doesn't matter who comes in if they can't catch Cam's bullets or proven they can catch bullets at a proficient rate. There is no guarantee that Ginn will re-sign and if he doesn't, WR becomes a need position that will have to come in the draft, which may or may not throw drafting BPA out the window.

This team may still be two full seasons away from being Great but that's ok with me so long as the core of Cam, Kalil, Smith, Luke, Kraken and Star are retained and can stay healthy...that is the type of team-identity that builds dynasty's...and this franchise is on the verge of becoming legendary.

It's a head-scratcher for sure. CJ and Stewart have to restructure or it will cripple what could be "TheNewStandard" by which all other NFL teams are measured...

Regardless, I am thrilled with the players on the roster and the direction of the franchise and "Buzz-City." Ecstatic

First time back on the huddle since dooms day and weeks being deflated. Now back to the topic lafell has to go. And I wish we could unload Stewart but unfortunately we can't. And can we drop Byron bell off at the nearest air port. Sorry just venting been watching our whole season over and over again these past weeks on film

I kinda wanted to make a thread about this but figured it wouldn't be well received:

I think if we come to an agreement with Hardy, Mitchell becomes the replaceable/odd man out.

If we can get Hardy for around 10 million, cut Godfrey June 1st, and stick with the RBs so that we don't have any unnecessary cap hits, we'll be looking at around $11 million for the remaining FAs/picks.

Now I think Gross, Ginn, Senn, Hartsock, Gano, & Wharton can be manageable under this but if Mitchell wants a big contract, he's definitely replaceable.  Just my 2 cents, if getting Hardy back would mean not having Mitchell, I'm fine with it.  But I'm not a cap guy so don't know how legit this scenario would be for us.

    • You are wise beyond your years to agree with me.  I think Fields is the free agent with the most upside---I mean, you keep looking until your franchise qb is on the roster-we are all hoping that Bryce will grab it, but he has not yet.
    • he is a sleeper--I am not good at predicting college QBs who succeed in the NFL, but this guy is going to change my luck.  I just think he'd be a good fit here.  4th round, maybe 5th.
