The Carolina Panthers defense faces a tough task on Sunday against Eli Manning and the Giants.

Here are a few things the Panthers can do to hold them at bay.

  • Cover the Middle - The NY Giants bread and butter in the passing game is the center of the field and ten to twenty yards deep. Eli Manning's passing rating here is 137 and accounts for over a third of their total passing yards. With the Carolina Panthers secondary depleted, this will be a tough task. Luke Kuechly will have his hands full dropping back in coverage,
  • Monstarz Inc must get pressure. The Panthers front four has been talking a lot, but aside from Star Lotulelei, have produced little. This week the Panthers need them to apply pressure to the quarterback in their base package. Eli Manning is great at a blitz pickup and is quick to find the open hot route. In fact, Eli's QB rating actually goes up when facing a blitz.
  • What about the run? The Giants have only attempted 33 rushing plays in two games where they have averaged 2.2 yards per carry. This is an abysmal stat for them. The Panthers must minimize the Giants passing attack and force them to run. The front seven of Carolina should have little problem containing the Giants rushing attack.
  • Be Patient - Eli Manning already has 7 interceptions this season. Even with a makeshift secondary, there will be opportunities for turnovers. The Panthers must intercept Manning in this game and give the Panthers offense plenty of opportunities to score.

So, Eli's passing over the middle accounts for a 1/3 of all his passing.  Hmmm, I wonder how the other two passing areas are distributed . . .

3 short

 

the zone in the middle and center, out of 9 zones, accounts for 1/3 of his passing yards.

So in the following article Josh Norman says things will be different this time vs the Giants.

His dumb ass was making the same mistakes againat the Bills. Josh Norman needs to shut the fug up and learn to play DB.

      I explained that I was old school and I realize that others have a different opinion.  Being Deion's son is a bit different.   It suggests that his focus is on the money and not football--It is not just the diamonds--it is the dollar sign on the shirt.  Telling a reporter from the Raiders "I ain't going sixth."  Asking another reporter, "Do you know who my dad is?"  When asked what sets him apart from the others, he said that he is mentally more prepared.  Meanwhile, Dad as recently as March Deion, implied he would advise Shedeur to avoid certain franchises--later to retract that position during an interview with Skip Bayless.  You can't take the fact that he is probably a late first, early second round talent and ignore the fact that his comments, jewelry, $ on his shirts and uniform towels might suggest a feeling of entitlement, a person focused on the return more than the opportunity. As I said very clearly--this is my opinion about one person who was raised as a great player's son and how it might rub some the wrong way.  It comes off as entitled.  Fine if he lives up to it, but to me, it suggests that his mind might not be in the right place.  Perhaps he should be focused on humility, his work ethic, and how he is going to earn it--instead, this comes off as someone who thinks this is his reward.  I am sure that others feel the same way, but if I am the GM, I do not want the circus.  Remember Johnny?  I commented at the time that his money gesture would backfire.  It tells me that his mind was not in the right place.  Same thing.
