0-2 vs 0-3

Saw someone tweet something about how you shouldn't freak out about your team going 0-2 because six teams last year went 0-2 to start the season. So I thought I'd do a little digging and compare the teams that started 0-2 the last two seasons. This is mostly just rambling but oh well.

2012

There were six teams that dropped their first two games in 2012. That would be the Raiders, Chiefs, Saints, Titans, Jaguars, and Browns. None of those teams finished the season with a winning record. Five of those six drafted in the top ten the next year, New Orleans being the only exception (Oakland also drafted out of the top ten, but that was due to a trade with Miami). Three of those six had new head coaches by the start of the next season (Chiefs, Jaguars, Browns). Two of the six had new starting quarterbacks the next season (Oakland and Kansas City). Two of the six teams lost their next game (New Orleans and Cleveland) with the Saints being the only team to lose to another 0-2 team in week three (Kansas City).

2011

There were seven teams that opened up 0-2. The Panthers, Rams, Seahawks, Vikings, Colts, Chiefs, and Dolphins. None of those teams had a winning record at the end of the season. Five of the seven had top ten draft picks, with Seattle and Kansas City being the exceptions (St. Louis would have drafted second overall but thanks to Washington going all in on RG3 and another trade with Dallas, they didn't select until 14). Three of these seven teams had new head coaches the next season (St. Louis, Miami, Indianapolis). Three teams had new starting quarterbacks the next season (Seattle, Indianapolis, Miami). Five of the seven (Minnesota, Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Miami) dropped the next game to go to 0-3, with their being no match up between two winless teams in the third week. Minnesota did lose to Kansas City the next week though.

For the record, there are eight teams currently sitting at 0-2 (Panthers, Giants, Jaguars, Browns, Steelers, Redskins, Vikings, Buccaneers). Of those teams, there are two matchups this week between winless teams (Panthers vs Giants and Browns vs. Vikings) so at the very least two teams will start 0-3 this year.

Take all that for what you will.

This is riveting stuff

Actually, rivets involve connecting two pieces of material together. This would be numbers that may have a loose correlation to each other but are in no way actually connected. Good luck with your window.

So very sorry for the confusion but I think you have the noun (rivet = fastener) confused with my meaning (riveting = interesting or compelling)

Some time soon, your classroom will be introduced to words/sentence parts known as "adjectives".   Electric Company and Sesame Street are excellent resources for learning such fundamentals as my 1st grader is well prepared.  Need a link?

What does your first grader have to do with rivets?
