OL shows DG was just going to sit back and watch Ron sink or swim. He will invest his resources once he knows who is long term coach is .....could be Ron if he won but I don't see those.

This is absolutely the straw that convinces me Gettleman had no investment in winning this season and in tunrn legitimately makes me question if he was the man for the job.

 

I don't think that he doesn't want to win this season, I just believe that he's trying to do it on the cheap by rolling the dice and hoping that a seven pops up. You could be totally right though. I definitely believe that he isn't going all out to do what he can do because he is hedging his bets. He's trying to save money for next year.  This theory kind of pisses me off because, in the end, he is not putting his best foot forward---bankrupting the season---while intimating to the fan-base that he is doing his best.  

 

In the meantime, Cam's potential is being wasted, and may be never met. Smitty's final years and any half-hope of a championship, and possibly even a HOF bid is being tanked. And a team, which is so close to really competing this year is falling into disarray while G-man gives wise words, stern looks anf folds his arms, while refusing to at least give a semblance of a genuine fix to our problems.

 

Sorry, that's just the way I feel about now.

But seriously, there was buzz around this kid in the off season, hopefully it was warranted.

The buzz, I feel, was because he went to Alabama. He was undrafted and failed to cause any noise.

I feel that Mikell, if he can go, and Mitchell may be the best starting safeties we have had in sometime. The thing is, that we are set up to stop the run and rush the passer, we are not set up to defend the pass.

I agree that we will be eaten alive because the Giants are an air raid team if there is one in the NFL(aside from Detroit) and we will pay dearly.

I hope to see Florence signed by tomorrow and then I may be a little more confident. Too many young guys on D right now.

Meh, he is a conservative coach.....so was Fox.

Are problems are not just Ron. Richardson has created issues with his GM /HC pairings beginning in 2010.

Ron's conservative style would be less of an issue if he didn't have the league's worst secondary and an OL not built for his O.

Don't get me wrong, he is a bad coach....but if we think he is the only problem in the equation.....we are foolish IMO

They were talking about that on Sirius....statistically not that great of a percentage make it to begin with. They said it a an overhyped stat and not that big of a deal.

To say that Gettleman tanked this season is incorrect imo.  He probably realizes that building a team is a process and you start with the lines.  Dline and linebacker are in good shape, and next year will hopefully be time to work on the oline, receiving corps, and secondary.  Well, if we can get the salary cap low enough to deal with all of those.

Tanked is a poor choice of wording.

I think he was strategic in what he would and wouldn't do.....for a coach likely gone soon( which means scheme and who we will want will be altered).

He wasnt going to invest in Ron's team....that doesn't mean he tanked it. If Ron needed a bandaid to get by he will do it.

Maybe, but I also think that there were severe limits on what Gettleman could do last year.  Primarily Cap limits because of the previous administrations stumbles.  He got some of it fixed, but its going to take some time and some good draft picks to fix it completely.  As well as some luck.

 

Of course, it could be that, based on the way we finished and the closeness of the games we lost, he thought improvements in a few key areas would put Ron in a position to challenge for a playoff spot.  And if Ron couldn't do that, then the next coach would have a good foundation (defensive front 7) to build on.

The secondary is the walking wounded right now. Still need a couple of more signings...

sadly they sucked prior to the injuries. so this really doesn't change much... smh... I think we have a chance to actually look better by default or as bad as before
