Gettleman and Cam....is this going to work out?

There is a 0% chance that we trade away Cam Newton.

He has some issues he needs to fix for sure. And it is a fair question as to why he has not improved year over year. You can blame coaches all you want, but part of it always comes down to the player. Especially quarterbacks. And it is obvious that Cam has footwork and accuracy issues that you don't see in the elites. And he has trouble with his progressions.

But finding a good or even serviceable QB in the NFL is a complete crapshoot. He has been a top 15 QB without a full slate of real weapons and without a real OL. We all believe that he has the natural talent to be a top QB.

I assume that we will focus almost exclusively on offense next year.

The only real question is when do we renegotiate with him. I still think it will be at the end of this year.

The only reason I see Cam here long term is because of JR saying Cam will be his last qb.

You have to ask yourself why haven't they built around him tho

My question too. Every other team with a young quarterback seems to have done something to help him out. The Bengals have done this especially well. Meanwhile, after we spent the first overall pick on Cam, we've spent the last two years building up the defense and left Cam on his own to win.

I honestly have no idea what JR is thinking. He wants Cam to be his last quarterback and be successful here, yet he hires a defensive head coach who wants the defense to be the strength of the team and effectively neglects the offense.

0% ignores NFL history

And Gettlemen ain't gonna touch that contract until he has a new head coach

What trades are you thinking of? The only comparable move I can recall is Cutler who was traded after 3 years.

Unless Cam stinks or demands a trade I can't see us letting him go.

Anyway we will have a new coach soon after the season so that shouldn't hold up Cam's negotiations much at all if we want it.

NFL history simply says new HC means they bring their guy at QB in a 1-3 year window. Only exceptions are guys with rings.

I think that means something. Lots of things, I have 0 faith in DG hiring a HC that wants a Newton offense. We could just destroy Newton's potential in reality.

And if DG hires a dinosaur HC who doesn't care for his style ...Newton may want to leave. Simple. He may just need a fresh start.

I'm still struggling to understand what makes people think Gettleman is not on board with Cam?

I remember one of GMan's first press conferences talking about some of the pieces already being in place for this team. The QB position was mentioned. I'm pretty sure Cam isn't going any where lol

I want to believe GMan is intelligent enough to realize the coach he brings in next season will have an offensive mind that will maximize Cam and his abilities...

You think every coach and GM wants a Vick/Cam offense? You think they all want to scrap what they believe in to work with someone unique?

Do you not think some simply want a square peg that fits what they believe in?

Look at our OL....and tell me DG is all in on Cam. It is year 3. DG doubled dipped on DT bc it was a safe post 2013 move. Too many holes were in our roster for him to leave them all unaddressed but one

I will trust DG will he earns all this blind faith.

No one in the NFL would touch his guy but Richardson. Jerry Richardson has flat out been the architect of some poo since the end of Fox's run. JR in terms of putting a good team on he field has been the mastermind of this poo recently with his "moves".

I always believed the DG hire should make people nervous. But people were so happy to get rid of Hurney I feel they have simply made DG into what they want him to be.

Hurney was a damn beat writer before he was the GM

GMan has at least been around football personnel and has been apart of Super Bowl organizations. Talent evaluator. College scouting.

The guy knows the game. There's no denying that. He was a major upgrade to Hurney. Loved the two DTs we got and a great value pick in Barner

He needs at least 3 offseasons to be judged IMO

This whole conversation is the SCREW UP and for me why I am pissed at Richardson, the owner.  This whole transition, rebuild has been done half ass.  The right thing to do would have been to fire Hurney with John Fox and bring everyone in at the same time.

Instead, its Fox gets fired and Hurney stays.  Then we have a new coach and the same GM.  Then its bring in a new GM the following season and keep the old HC the previous guy hired.  Now its another lost season until this new GM fires the old HC that wasnt his...... AND to top it all off we have a potential franchise QB floating around in the wind who now we talk about if he will stay when this new GM who didnt draft him, brings in his coach who will want his own guy.

Its all ass backwards.  Jerry needed to and should have fired Hurney and Fox at the same time. Brought in his new GM, and Coach together and they would have drafted Cam.  Instead the last three seasons has been a complete waste.

I think we can win with Cam Newton, that said, this entire post right here is spot on with how an organization should structure a transition. Instead, the completely half-assed it the way this team always seems to do. I could not be more unhappy with Panthers ownership.

JR is a smart man. My personal opinion is that this year was a wash and the fans got dooped. He brought in Gettleman to clean it up and get it ready for the next coach. No reason to bring a new coach into this mess. Why else are we stashing away money and damn near the whole team are on 1 year deals.
