McDermott is our only viable interim head coach candidate.

Or you can bring in Lovie Smith.

Lovie, consider this your tryout for our HC job. Manage the team, motivate them, point your coordinators in the right direction, win games. Do all this and you get an interview in the offseason.

Does he still have money owed to him from Chicago? Wouldn't make sense since he could get a multi year deal next season

for McDermott to be promoted? The guy who couldn't predict that EJ Manuel, a rookie QB who hadn't gone deep successfully all game, and decided the best course of action was to play prevent defense with 2 minutes up?

no thanks

this organization needs a clean cut from ALL their coaches. I know this can't happen in the middle of a season, but everyone but Gettleman needs to go, and he needs to pick the HC.

otherwise, we are going to continue to fail

I am pretty sure this is talking about on an interim basis...but for the future I don't want anyone associated with this current team to be our HC.

Actually...if we could have someone who has never been associated with this team in any way, shape, or form...that would be ideal.

McDermott is the only coach who has shown competency in his current coaching position.

Good.

Fire Rivera and promote McDermott and play out the year.

Fug, fire Rivera AND Shula, promote McDermott and coin-flip-an-offensive-coach and play out the year.

Then fuggin' fire them all at the end of the year.

It's bad when this somehow sounds enticing

Has there every been a positions coach promoted over a coordinator to a interim head coach position?

plenty. It's not uncommon.

And it's smarter.  Coordinators aren't disrupted, you're not taking focus away from an entire side of the ball.  Wilks is primed to be a good DC, sure.  But does not having a DBs coach help right now, when their coach has to take on an entire defense and three starters are hurt?

Also I can't think of a single time where an outside coach actually joined a team as head coach mid-season, so we don't really have to worry about bringing up Lovie Smith.

I don't want Lovie Smith. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to say that phrase a lot here for the next 8 months.

Lovie's a solid coach who does the same stuff Rivera does, in a less interesting defensive package.

Lovie is also old school thought in a league that's being over-run by new thinking.   I don't know if JR or Gettleman are willing to be new school, but since college innovators aren't likely to come up as OCs (and monetarily it'd be a step down), you don't have many choices to keep up with change.
