Only idiots don't take the points. If you want to bitch about the playcalling that put us in position to have a 4th down to attempt, then go right ahead. But in that situation, you put your defense on the field with the points. Any other answer is that you're an idiot that doesn't understand football.

Point out literally ANY other call in the game and you'd have a leg to stand on here. That was one call that was simply a no brainer. You turn the ball over on 4th down and give the ball back to the opposition only down a field goal? You'd never work in the NFL again.

The playcalling on both sides of the ball in the last two minutes of the game lost us the game. It's just that simple. Not converting drives where we turned the ball over in their territory into 7 points on each occasion cost us the game. The 7 play 7 yard drive that lead to a field goal cost us the game.

But ONE THING that did not cost us the game? Choosing to take the points in that situation.

That wasnt about pts though.

Was about ending a game.....or giving them a shot to win against the league's worst secondary.

1 yard ends the game.

To me it wasn't so much the field goal, I probably would have kicked it to. What pissed me off was running it up the gut on third and 5 against a stacked box. They had a timeout, so they were going to stop the clock anyways. Throw the ball and try and pick up a first. They were playing for a field goal the whole time (aka trying not to lose)

That was my issue as well. Them playing for the field goal and not the first down. Remember last year against Philly they finally let Cam go out and get that first down? We win the game. You need one first down to guarantee victory and you chicken out.

If idiots on this board will say Harbaugh would have made that call and now makes excuses when he literally does not, then this fanbase is dumber than I thought.

 

Down 12-0 in the 3rd and if it was 4th and 1 and not 3..hell yeah I can see harbaugh making that call..

Look, as I tried to explain earlier. With a 3 pt lead or a 6 pt lead there's only ONE WAY that you can lose the game. By giving up a TD. Adding that three points did nothing to change that. The only way to ensure that you can't lose is by either scoring a TD there or at least getting a 1st down so you can kneel out the rest of the clock.

Instead we went for a FG like a fuging moron and the rest is history.

This is the best answer. The logic here is flawless and cannot be argued. If this thought ever entered the coaching staffs mind I would be shocked.

3 pts or 6 the only thing that changes is that the offense is forced to go score a TD and test the biggest weakness of our D, the secondary. If anything taking the field goal in that situation. Was the absolute worst thing to do. If its a 3 point game maybe buffalo goes conservative and plays for the tie? We'll never know.

No...different scenarios.

Up. 1 yard on 4th down....get the yard and the opponent can't stop clock or letting them attempt a comeback drive.

Rivera has had it now a couple times.

That is the scenario....he hasn't faced it

The third down play to Tolbert, should have been the second down call. That way, we could have had a better option on third and the balls to go for it on fourth, if necessary. When we essentially pooted on second down, I knew we were playing for the FG. The rest is his-tory, further entrenching us in the "jokes" franchise category.

It was about points. Because points are how you win and lose ballgames. Putting yourself up by an advantage higher than 3 effectively ends the game too with as little time as they had. 9/10 times it ends the game. Especially when your defense has forced turnovers the previous two possessions and have appeared to rattle a rookie quarterback who would have to lead his team down the field, with ZERO timeouts, in less than two minutes starting from his own 20 yard line. You take those odds every day of the week. It's not even a controversial call, it's a common sense one.

 

The more glaring mistake in my estimation was not calling 3 plays to gain 10 yards when a first down ends the game and you're on the good side of the 50 yard line and already in field goal position. If you stop the clock, you stop the clock. The playcalling had to be more aggressive.

 

What we saw on the final two drives was a lack of faith in Cam to move the ball. Putting DeAngelo in the wildcat for two consecutive plays was a direct affront to Cam. Then on the final drive, to not allow your best player to make a play but instead run handoffs to players who haven't had a ton of success on the day is just.... insulting. At best they were trying to protect him from the potential to take an avoidable turnover. At worst they were coddling him. The lack of designed runs for Cam is alarming. He has been neutered and he's not having nearly as much fun. You can see it on his face.

 

If you want to bemoan a play call, it's the entire last drive with the exception of the call to kick a field goal. Manuel had a poor second half and was coming off a few turnovers. Let him go the length of the field with no timeouts and you deserve to lose the game.

      I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
