The final FG

Here is why you go for the TD there EVERY time--unfortunately, our coaching staff is stupid:

1. If you score a TD or get a first down, game over.  Odds?  About 60% that you get a first down if you throw the ball.  Why? Cam completes 60% of his passes and they were playing run.  Probably higher than 60%.

Lets say the 3rd down pass was incomplete.  Go for it on fourth.  Why?  If you get it, you win.  If they stop you, you have a 3-point lead with 2 minutes to go.

They play for the field goal and overtime.  So, you go for it, you don't lose--you go to overtime.  A field goal meant that a field goal does not tie you, but it forced them to go for a TD.  Our secondary was depleted.  Why would you force them to attack them?

Rivera finds new ways to be stupid.  This should be his last act of stupidity.

My question is, who here would have? .

Anybody that can do math should have gone for it.

1. whether or not we add a fg a touchdown still wins the game

2. half our starting secondary is in the locker room

3. a first down ends the game.

4. the field position difference between a turnover on downs and a kickoff is not that big.

Its a risk that winners take and losers don't

ps Ive said it before I will say it again

If John fox played not to lose Rivera plays not to win.

It baffles me that there are actually people here that are defending that decision from Rivera.

Yet these same individuals wonder why we can't win.

Im not defending the decision, but that defense we played on that last drive was bullshit play to lose poo

The offense job is to put points on the board, which in that case we did. The defense job is to stop points from being scored

Rivera plays to not lose, not to win. It's Fox JR

Our defense gave up 436 total yards, just under 300 of that was through the air. All this talk about our defense, we need more results. Especially considering all the investments we've made on that side. We got one sack today.

I wish I could find the audio from the Bears post game presser last season when he said he wanted them to beat us systematically. Ever since that remark there has been no doubt in my mind that he will always coach with this mindset. His inability to change his philosophy means our FO is equally responsible for these losses. It really sucks when you see the writing on the wall in the middle of September.

Sounds like an ego problem.

Here's the very basic logic that, for some fuging reason, escapes Rivera. We had a 3 point lead. A field goal can't beat you, at best it can fuging tie. The ONLY way to lose with a 3 point lead is to give up a TD. Well guess what increasing the lead to 6 does to that scenario??? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THEY STILL NEED A TD TO WIN. Goddamnit.

It was the correct call, considering that Rivera is such a great defensive mind.

RR has proven in Carolina....putting his D in the field to close out a final drive is not the right call.

Yes it is the right call under normal circumstances. RR's D here....alters that call. They consistantly can't stop a team.....too many examples.

It makes the FG the wrong call. And that is with a healthy D..... Losing 3 DB starters in the game makes the FG flat out dumb

I don't have a problem with the 4th down call, I have a problem with the 3rd down call.  3rd and 5, your jobs on the line, knowing 5 yards separates you from winning.  We took the ball out of our best playmakers hand (Cam) and put it in of all people, a glorified short yardage fullback's hands hands...worse yet, that call put faith in of all things, our O-line.  This is why that asshat should be looking for a new job.  I would have had no problem with letting cam drop back, see if particularly smitty breaks coverage, and if not, let him try to tuck and run this thing for a first down.  instead, he chose the most conservative of conservative calls.

You guys are delusional. You have to kick the field goal in that situation. Chip Jelly is probably the only coach in the NFL who even thinks about going for it on 4th down in that situation.

As for 3rd down, Cam Newton had the worst completion percentage in the NFL last year on 3rd and 3 plus yards to go. Looks the same this year.
