Funny how JR doesnt want college coaches but the 2 best teams in the NFL are college coaches turned NFL coaches.

"But Toolbox, Its too risky to hire a college coach" -J Richardson

You know what? I'm starting to think that JR preaches that "too risky' bullschit to our coaches resulting in this conservative bullschit we see on the field. But regardless, FREE RIVERA NOW!

Not just college, PAC-12. And now a potential up and comer is also from the PAC-12. Who is the next big guy? Stanford's newish head coach? Jim mora jr again. We see he was able to take a Vick led team to the NFC championship game.

If you're referring to Carroll, you might want to check his career a little more thoroughly.  He had several years experience as a pro coach - including two stints as a head coach - before going to USC.  Calling him a 'college coach' is hardly accurate.

Harbaugh was also a pro coach (Raiders QB coach for a few years) before going to he college ranks, and prior to that had a very long career as a pro player.

They both spent most of their coaching career in college is my point.. they made the transition pretty smooth and true having some NFL experience helped but JR still does not want any kind of college coach regardless of their NFL background or am I wrong?

Richardson had Steve Spurrier - both an offensive coach and a college coach - interviewed the year he came out.  Reports were that the interview was an unmitigated disaster.  Whether that means he'd never go that route again, unknown (I do believe the Seifert experience put him completely off retreads though).

Richardson has always preferred defensive coaches and prefers pro coordinators to college head coaches, something evident in that when the least head coach search was done, that's all that was looked at.

And I don't really have an issue with that,  What you need is a coach that has the right stuff to lead a team, regardless of which side of the ball he's on.  Heck, John Harbaugh was a Special Teams coach.

Well narrowing the talent pool because of one incident with spurrier just seems rash to me but hey he's the owner he has that luxury.. I just wish he was more flexible.

I'd say what I said in the other thread...

There is no magic formula for this, no guarantees whatsoever.

Offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, special team coaches, position coaches, college coaches...You can find examples of both success and failure from every single one of these positions.

You just have to find the right guy.
