We have too many things to fix to go anywhere fast: Tale of half-assing (borderline rant)

To be honest, I don't know where to begin.  I would probably start with the O-line.  Cam holds on to the ball a little long sometimes, but he has to run for his life way too much.  When you half-ass on the O-line, this is the type of result that you should expect.  The entire offense will always be disjointed with a sketchy O-line.

Speaking of half-assing, I don't want to here anything more about LaFell and AE. I am not a believer, nor will I ever be.  LaFell is a solid WR3/4, and that's just what he is.  Smitty is still a gamer, but he has hardly any help outside of Olsen. I believe Ginn could/would be a legitimate weapon, but only if Cam gets time, and only if Cam and he develop some chemistry (which is really a product of coaching and play calling).  We need a prospective WR1 in here by next season, and could probably stand to get a WR2 also, not only by next season, but now (which I don't see in FA).

And, of course, the last thing we half basically half-assed at is the defensive backfield.  We probably need to call Drayton Florence fast, and possibly call Antoine Winfield off the couch before he gets too comfortable. Our young guys are not ready to start, and I don't know if they will ever be.

Now I recognize the fact that Dave Gettleman inherited a fuged up cap situation that needed serious attention, but in my opinion he shouldn't be blowing sunshine up our asses by suggesting to us that the answer is on our roster.  It's not.  With his wise grandfather demeanor, he lulled us into a sense that our team's prospects this year were better than what they are. Moreover, there were some things that he could have done in FA that would have made a lot of people feel much more secure about our chances, but I suppose that he can't just come out and say that we have a long way to go (even though he is a straight shooter...).

The last half-assing that is no better than the worse, falls into the lap of Jerry Richardson.  He never wanted to pay for a higher profile coach (which invariably means a more expensive coaching staff in general), so it's no wonder that the Panthers are becoming what many people throughout NFL circles (including fan bases) think that we are: an inconsequential afterthought, if not an outright joke of a franchise that's been spinning wheels the last few years, getting closer to nowhere.

In fairness to JR, he paid a great deal to both Siefert and Fox.

I'm sick of losing and sick of paying to watch incompetence.

I don't know how to blame anymore and maybe that's a good thing.  Its a systemic failure.

If I blame JR for anything, its not getting rid of Rivera and having Gettleman bring in his own staff.

I can't say I agree that we are that far away. I wish we were that bad actually. I wish we got blown out every game. It would be easier to deal with.

I'm not going to say we are all good, but we aren't that far behind either.

All teams have holes.

I know where you're going with that sentiment, and I used to believe the same thing, but it is what it is.  At some point you just have to accept that your team as currently constituted is not going to get it done.

"We are so close, yet so far."
