Again, where did I ever say anything about Mariota being better than Cam?

My fault on reading comprehension bc you jumped in on a post to made me think you wanted to trade Cam for Mariota.

But, Manziel will be a better NFL QB than Mariota. Quote me if I'm wrong. I'll re quote you if I'm correct. Im done with this conversation. I'm not going to worry about a QB prospect.

Dude your opinion is your opinion and that's fine, but the fact that you said you haven't seen much of Mariota means it's a completely baseless opinion.  So saying there's no way Mariota is better than Manziel makes you look like a complete fool...

Depending on the next coach, it could be for the best.

Don't agree with this, if we're getting a coach that's actually going to utilize Mariota's ability that means we're getting a coach that will utilize Cam's ability.  If that's the case we need to build around Cam who has already proven he can be an elite weapon in this league.  Get him a LT, or a top flight WR/TE to use.  My absolute pipe dream is Sumlin as HC, adding Nicks in FA, getting Matthews/Lewan in the first, and then Austin Seferian-Jenkins falls to us in the second.  Honestly I wouldn't be totally against going WR in third in this scenario if Kasen Williams or Josh Huff are there. That would be some nasty pieces to help Cam and this offense....

I've seen Youtube highlights of the kid. But I'm not going to use that as enough judgments for me to say he's this and that. I've seen enough of Manziel (not Youtube) to believe that he's worthy of a 1st rounder and has all the tools to translate into the NFL.

I wanna see Mariota in a more traditional offense, not some Chip Kelly offense. Even Dennis Dixon looked like a damn Heisman playing there.

So you've seen YouTube highlights and that's enough to say he's not a better prospect than Manziel....hahahahahaha. Oh and Manziel plays in just as "Chip Kellyish" of an offense as Mariota does.

HAHAHAHAHAHH.

It's a spread, shotgun/pistol offense for the most part that uses some zone read. They don't base their offense around the zone read, but they use it enough. They even use some of the exact same formations.  Biggest difference is A&M throws more while Oregon runs more.  I guess you could call A&M a run and shoot, but they still use a lot of designed QB runs and read plays with Manziel's athletic ability.  Not sure what you're laughing about.  They're very similar offenses.

Technically, Cam and Marcus are the same guy in terms of skills.  Yet I don't want a coach coming in thinking he can use a QB's running ability as a main weapon.  That works in college, but this is the big leagues right here.  Every time I hear someone saying they want a coach who is going to use Cam's abilities, I always think those "abilities" are strictly his running ability.  I don't want a coach wanting Cam to use his running ability as a main weapon.  We already tried that to some degree last year with the read options.  So why do I want Mariota if he and Cam are technically the same guy?

There's a bias in the NFL.  That if you are a black QB, it's standard belief that he can run and that must be taken into account in the offensive playcalling.  Especially if he can actually run.  So Cam can run, he's athletic.  Yet we've seen he can throw the ball as well, but because of the bias, how much time does he actually spend on furthering his throwing ability and his pocket awareness?  It looks like he's regressing, and now we are talking about letting him run more so he can be comfortable.  We're talking about bringing in a coach, to make his running ability a main focus in the offense.  I don't like that kind of talk at all, considering every defensive player is just as fast if not faster than Cam.  This ain't college.

Mariota can run, but as we can see, he's not black.  So the bias won't apply to him, even though he can run and is the same QB Cam is.  He would come in, and coaches would look to improve his ability to throw, and see his running ability as a trump card.  How do I know this?  Andrew Luck can run (and tackle), but nobody talks about that.  Alex Smith can run, but nobody looks to work that into the Chiefs offense.  It's a pathetic bias, it's a pathetic thing, but it's true for now.  Finally, even though Cam and Mariota are the same in terms of talent, there's a better chance Mariota will develop into a top QB. (Now if we brought in David Shaw, there's no question he would turn Cam into the best QB in the league.  He would turn him into an expert passer, and not just a runner)

I'm not talking about just running Cam.  I'm talking about designing PA rollouts, bootlegs, vertical balls that aren't just 3-4 vert plays, as well as some quick developing routes to get the ball out before the rush has a chance to get to him.

Cam needs to get better at reading safeties on plays, and also needs to gain some trust in his line.  One big problem I see watching the All 22 is that a lot of times he'll go through his progressions, but he won't wait long enough for a route to develop even if the pocket is clean.  He seems to have a pretty quick internal clock about getting the ball out, which screams lack of faith that his OL will hold up.  While some of that is justifiable, there have been opportunities that weren't taken advantage of because he didn't wait for a guys route to develop.

I'm not sure if race makes coaches work on one ability or the other more (I honestly don't think it does), but I'm not willing to say Cam can do this, or can't do this until I see him with a competent coaching staff.  I'm nowhere near ready to give up on a 24 year old QB with only 4 years of college and pro starting experience (1 at a JC).  Just think there's way too much talent and untapped potential UNLESS we're not going to put him in situations to be successful.  Right now Cam isn't a pocket passer, and frankly the Panthers can't have a pocket passer imo with their offensive line being a liability.  That's fine as long as you realize it, and game plan accordingly, but at the moment we aren't.

You must feel really good about our "CORNERBACK" position then?

You know what, it's hard to hit big on corners in the draft. They're so hit or miss. In the position we're in I think the D can hold teams to 21 points. Our offense need a boost.

what the fug?

people are talking about drafting mariota to replace cam?

LOL

if i had a list, mariota wouldn't break the top 5.

In fact, he is not. According the reputable mocks he is not even mentioned. I'm really hearing Teddy, hundley, and boyd. And of course other than Teddy the rest will flip-flop during the combine for whatever reason.

    • I agree.  I think Belicheick or someone said you cut players a year early. Meaning you don't wait until they start to decline. 1 you get pieces if you trade or two you don't have pay out the wazzoo and then regret once Father Time comes knocking.  It's a cold business
    • Probably wont be a popular opinion give the obsession people have with receivers, but the Dolphins would be a better team if they resigned Hunt instead of Waddle.
