Who would be in your ultimate band?...

I'm not sure where these Lars rumors have come from. I've seen him on live DVDs and have all the Metallica albums. I don't see how the criticism of him adds up to what I'm seeing and hearing imo.

You know how these things start, c'mon, one guy trashes him on the internet...then another gets in on the fun, next thing you know it becomes the "popular" thing to do.  It's mostly "aspiring" drummers themselves who never had the nads to go play out in public.

@ TS, great thread.  So many options for an ultimate band.  Was tough for me to go Skolnick over Wylde for lead but Wylde has become too much of a one-trick pony throughout the years.

Being the weakest link in Metallica means nothing.  They are a once in a lifetime group.  The argument is flawed because saying he sucked when he was 18 means he never improved.  Much like saying Michael Jordan is horrible because he didn't make Varsity as a freshman, lol.

He's no drum god, but he's far from awful even at this stage in his life.

he didn't know how to play the drums when the band started and you said he was amazing in the 80s and 90s which is absurd. in the context of this thread and being a member of the "ultimate band" lars shouldnt be mentioned. simple as that. sorry to upset you. ask any competent drummer. seriously.

Uh, the "ultimate band" thing is your OWN ultimate band. Not THE ultimate band as that is always relative.

He may not have known "how", but he learned, as most young musicians do.  You didn't upset me, I just find it hilarious that people like to sling criticism on the guy.  Especially when there would be no Metallica without him.  If he was so horrible, Metallica would be able to continue without him.

Btw, a little off topic, but I love Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil). James Root is a lucky man. She is beautiful and is a great person according to her FB page. She's always appreciating where she's going and enjoying the culture. I can't believe she's actually 41. She looks more like mid to late 20's. Anyway, all I'm saying is she's a keeper and James needs to put a ring on that finger.

Also, the word competent and drummer should never go together...as a brain dead monkey could beat a drum with a stick. :D

Lars said it best himself, he was the best drummer in the world...to play behind James Hetfield's guitar.  No more, no less.  Late 80s though, he was metal's top drummer.

Tommy Lee?

I feel like if your vocalist isn't Freddie Mercury, you are doing your band a disservice.

Vocals: Freddie Mercury

Guitar 1: Paul Waggoner

Guitar 2: Ben Weinman

Bass: Arif Mirabdolbaghi

Drums: Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan

All playing a progressive country metal concept album about a man who finds the cure for cancer, but must deal with the government and corporations trying to squash his discovery.

And he has a pet ferret named Travis.
