Carolina Panthers Rankings

For last week's game?  How the hell can they justify our offense being ninth in Week One?

On the flipside, how can so many huddlers justify our offense being the worst after week one when we faced a top notch D?

It's like comparing college football rankings at the beginning of the season when so many teams are playing softball with D 1-AA teams while others are going against SEC schools. Who's going to have the better statistics at the end of it all?

I am just going to leave it at this for now. It is a long season, this will play itself out, and we can just revisit this on a week to week basis. The facts will come out.

Zod and others may end up being right about Shula, I think people misinterpreted what I was trying to say.

The only point I was trying to make was that after further analysis I wasn't as discouraged as I was immediately after the game.

I wasn't saying Shula is goat, I think there isn't enough evidence to fairly grade him yet, but I also don't think play calling was a major issue last game.

I don't think people are necessarily closing the book on Shula.  We all hope---and expect---that he and the rest of the squad improves going forward. The facts will come out, for sure, but the week one facts are already what they are: a 28th ranking in total offense.

The ranking and the stats better show marked improvement tomorrow, especially the most important stat of all (W-L to .500).

Total offense might be literally the worst stat to gauge offensive performance.

Sorry. Seriously I am going to stop now.

If you want to play around with some stats check out this website.

We are 2nd in Big Play Average, 8th in receiving efficiency, 4th in rushing efficiency, and 10th in sacked percentage.

Notice how silly that all sounds?

This is why nobody should cry river over petty statistics (especially Total Offense) this early in the season.

Yep, be interesting to review as the season goes on.

Yes our opponent was tougher than most and taking that into account we probably were not the worst, but even if the gulf in talent in the NFL was equal to that between 1-AA and SEC teams there is still nothing from our seven point performance that would justify a ranking close to ninth.  Regardless of opponents, our offense was one of the worst in the league last Sunday.  Maybe not the absolute worst but certainly near the bottom and downright painful to watch.

If we were truly one of the worst offenses out there last week, then it's hilarious to think that we were a couple drops and a big fumble from taking the win over one of the highly touted teams in the nation. Shula would have been praised for his efficiency yet we ridicule him for having no balls.

The sample size is way too small right now. We will begin to see what this offense is made of against Buffalo.
