Carolina Panthers Rankings

Zod

Recommended Posts

Fixed.

??? What was subjective about it?

Just because Zod doesn't like actual study and statistical analysis because it undermines his desire to prove that he was right about Shula.

And just because he rejects the contextualizing of a game through statistical analysis.

Doesn't mean it is subjective.

Stats are not for losers. Clump stats like total yardage and total points for offenses or defenses are for the misinformed though.

And I have never said whether I felt Zod was right or wrong about Shula. All I said is that after going back and analyzing the game on tape and through statistical analysis I was more encouraged about our offense than I was immediately after the game.

For some reason that has brought derision down upon me from our fearless leader.

I will keep breaking the team down on a weekly basis and sharing my observations through that analysis. If people are interested in that then great and if not they can move on to another thread.

Here is the problem with your thinking, and it is a flaw that completely negates your reasoning.

You are taking all of that analysis of one team and applying it to them only, ignoring the rest of the league.

Every team can rewatch and find a few plays that would have changed the game every week.

If you do that for the Panthers, then you need to do that for 31 other teams as well if you are looking for objectivity.

I do. And base my betting off of that analysis. Basing it as comparable to the rest of the league is what my analysis was all about

Although this week it may be a little later because my computer crashed and am having to use my phone for everything.

Oh I see, you watched every game and was as forgiving with 31 other teams. My bad. Carry on.

Well I tried but my computer crashed so I wasn't able to watch every game only what was on national TV and two others before it happened.

Again it isn't about being forgiving or not, it is about objectively looking at a game and dissecting each game based on statistics. Then watching the game in order to contextualize those statistics.

I try to do it for every team.

If the Panthers cannot win this Sunday, it looks like another, "win a few in the second half when it doesn't count" kinda season.  i will be ready to blow up the whole offense and start over.

No sacred cows from the HC, OC, to expensive RB's, underperforming OLine, QB, and WR corps.  Tired of the excuses

And maybe I am a homer

Yes, yes you are.

And that is not a bad thing. Its a good thing.

But this thread is about objective rankings, hard numbers.

You see it as offensive bashing. I see it as truth and an opportunity for all involved to redeem themselves this week and get those numbers up.

Let me first say that I am not making fun of your apparent appreciation for statistical analysis, but as you already know, stats can and are manipulated to support more than one point of view.  That being said, there is really no propping up being ranked near last in offense in the league statistically, particularly with Cam Newton at QB.  Like I have said in other threads, Sunday's failings were a combination of mistakes, ultra conservative play calling, and/or at least the coaches not having or fostering an environment of faith and trust with or between players at the offensive skilled positions. Now, of course the latter could be a condition of not having enough legitimate weapons, which again speaks to management and coaching. But, at the end of the day the offensive effort last Sunday is not something to be repeated nor encouraged by, especially in comparison to 2011 and the latter half of 2012.  The offense dramatically and unexpectedly morphed from a big play offense to one that looked like it was just out for a casual Sunday drive, and the stats reflect that.

I don't care about bashing the offense. But the stats you are using are not helpful and are not truthful or at least misleading for objective analysis.

I don't know why you think I am just trying to prop up the offense. As you cut out in my post I have never done that with the defense. Including last year when I thought our defense was average and everyone said they were top 10

Am I just a homer for our offense?

If you thought I was just defending Cam wouldn't I be just as eager to do on Shula as a ready made excuse for him?

No. I truly try to be objective and share my observations. For some reason that seems to upset you now that Shula is in the equation.

This is not an analysis thread.

This is a stats and rankings thread.

The stats are the only thing that matter here.

Our offense wasn't one of the worst in the league last week (football outsiders i believe had it 9th) and this is just on game in which we completely outperformed last year's team against the same opponent.
