Ron Rivera......before we knew

I love that Ron Rivera.... Week 2 is an important game.

I feel like we have seen a ton of improvement from rivera. I remember how many times we shot ourselves in the foot with stupid penalties and how sloppy we looked the first year. Our special teams was awful and rivera was making terrible game time decisions. He seems like hes getting better during the game despite a couple questionable 4th and short calls.. at least he's not calling timeouts so the other team has to to kick the field goal anymore. The team plays hard for him and he has them looking sharp.

Two losing seasons isn't enough for you? I promise more of us will get behind him if he starts winning. Then we will be like one big happy family. I might even buy you a beer at a game.

He actually seemed more confident then than he does now to me.

At first glance yes but imo back then his demanor seemed forced like he was trying too hard, he seems more wise now and just more natural.

Yet despite all those shortcomings he has taken a 2-14 team and brought us to 7-9.

I agree with game management criticisms entirely and it may be the thing that gets him fired, but he hasn't been terrible by any means overall.

 

To be fair Cam had a lot to do with that.  You put a great QB on a mediocre team and thats good for 4-5 wins every year.

 

But a great coach can push that team even further.  Rivera is just not a good head coach, that's not hate that just reality.  

 

You can say what you want about fumbles and players making mistakes but eventually someone has to be held accountable for all the loses we have sustained the last few years.  Rivera is responsible.  This team never seems ready, never seems focused, and always seems to get out coached.

Well as a fan, how long do we give him? As much time as it takes? I don't know, I'll be the first to jump on his balls when he gives us a winning season. I just want ro win. Gettleman says it's time to win. Who gets the axe if we don't? Rivera, Shula, Cam? Or is it just GM talk?

I think some of you forget just how terrible this team looked when Davidson was our OC (although we did win the division one year).

Even after one game it looks like Shula looks like his father compared to Davidson.

That's what an offensive line coach will give you. Lol, he was horrible. I don't have an opinion on Shula yet. I thought he called a good game last week.

I agree. Huge fan of the hiring of Chico and was pumped about the future of this organization after his introduction press conference. He has taken a huge step back. Dont know why, but he have failed me.

I don't know why people assume poor play and mistakes can be resolved by coaching; you can't coax good performances out of mediocre talent.

Rivera is the likely target. And he has pieces in place this year that take away excuses from previous seasons. This defense has been molded in his image, and the offense may be missing pieces but is not lacking entirely. As Gettleman said, it's time to win, but how much winning is the difference between staying or going has yet to be determined.

The bottom line is, we have seen this team improve each of the first 2 seasons Rivera has coached this team.  Especially on defense (his specialty).  Everywhere he's gone, a #1 defense has followed.  If we have a winning season this year (9-7), I would be very inclined to see him stay.  I believe in what Rivera is selling, and I truly believe we will continue to improve under his leadership.  The players buy in to his philosophy, and that is #1.  I want a coach that they players want to play hard for, and that guy is Rivera... no doubt.
