2 years from now people are going to be talking about star as one of the best DTs in the game. People know who he is right now, yes, however, he will be even more well known despite the low exposure of being in Carolina

 

I think he's playing like one of the best right now. But maybe that's because his supporting cast is pretty damn good too.

While we have had a LOT of misses in our drafts, this franchise has really done an excellent job on first round picks.  Who else has this kind of record.

 

I wasn't posting a lot draft time (because I was just trying to absorb it), and I can't really remember my opinion that well.  I do know on draft day I almost peed my pants in joy when we picked Star.  I'm so glad for that!

While I flipped my **** when Star fell to us (I'm a stoic guy but I freaking screamed), could you imagine had we drafted Richardson too? Sheldon might end up being an All-Pro too if he keeps it up. His dexterity, explosive first step, motor, speed, and pass rushing moves are amazing. Yet, I think The Panthers made the correct choice regardless. Lotulelei is the total package (whereas Richardson isn't) and Short could be a wonderful pass rushing/run-stopping UT for us.

I'm confused, are you knocking Richardson or praising him? Also how would it of been possible to end up with Star and Sheldon??

I don't typically post about teams that have nothing to do with the Panthers in the Panthers forum, but I just felt like making an appreciation thread toward our FO (and yes, this includes Rivera) for their ability to consistently knock it out of the park with our first round draft picks.

CB was such a huge need, and I wanted Milliner or maybe Gilmore, and the Panthers' brass took all of 3 seconds to pick Star (yes I realize Dee was off the board at that point), who subsequently had a plus grade in his first game by PFF, who graded the highest of all (defensive) rookies, and who will be beasting people for years to come. I'm sure Milliner will be a quality player, but our 1st round rookies are playing lights out from day one.

Last year I wanted Coples. The staff went with Kuechly, whom we all know got DROY, already is a defensive captain and leader, and is already widely regarded as the best MLB in football. By the way, if you can obtain a copy of the draft day chat room transcript and read my comments re: the front office for drafting Luke, I highly suggest it because it's comedy gold and further proves my inability to recognize otherworldly talent.

Prior to that, I wanted Marcell Dareus (lol) over Cam, and the organization knocked it out of the park with that one as well. We all know how that turned out and Dareus is clearly at least 60% retarded.

The point of this thread more than anything is to lighten the mood around here and provide hope for the present and the future. We may just get ROY 3-peat, which while it isn't SB championships, should set us up in the future. I don't know how many times a team has gotten 3 ROY players in a row, but I'd imagine the list is short.

So stay positive for the things to come. Yes we have wallowed in futility for what feels like forever, but things could become very bright for the Panthers very quickly.

On that same note, Dre Kirkpatrick (from last year) hasn't sniffed a start for the Bengals yet either.

Never draft a Saban corner in the 1st round.. ever. It takes years to deprogram them. Kareem Jackson, in his 4th year with the Texans, seems to have FINALLY completed his deprogramming.

I vividly remember that I was at my condo on the lake at Lake Tahoe with my laptop on when we drafted Kuechly and I was on full on rage mode like why are we drafting a MLB when we have an all pro MLB. It was funny. Then we drafted Amini and I blew my top like argggggg let's get linemen from DeVry University class of February RAGE DERP. It was pretty bad. I hope when we draft next year I can learn to shut the fug up and trust that the staff knows what they are doing.....but I doubt it.

Who should get more credit: Hurney picking Cam and Luke or Gman picking Star? Cam had questions coming out and Many people didn't feel like Luke was a top 10 pick. Also we had Beason already. With Star, everyone knew he was good.

The thing is, because of his rookie season and because he's the QB, people always talk about Cam. I think about our defense and how if we can acquire (draft or FA) some good DB's it could be the best in football. I don't need Cam to become the best of all time. With the potential of this defense, he can continue to be a natural playmaker and I think we can win titles without him having to put the team on his back, which is what he's been used to doing since high school.

 

Well, I'd rather Cam be a QB that can win by putting the team on his back, that's what ultimately leads to long-term success. A top defense might last a few years, be up and down a bit b/c you need so many pieces to fit together. A top QB can keep you on top for a decade.

I'll stack my football knowledge up against anyone's but I've whiffed badly on the last two Panther drafts.

If I drafted for us the past ten years we'd have the likes of Erasmus James, Rashaun Woods, Laurence Maroney, Brandon Meriweather, Derrick Harvey, Ziggy Hood, Sergio Kindle, Marcell Dareus or Patrick Peterson, Michael Brockers, and Chance Warmack.

I implore all of you to take a good, long look at that list of names and see the kind of trouble this franchise could really be in. I mean, holy motherfuging poo am I consistently awful. I should get some sort of award.
