Scouting Carolina by Bills fan

kelly's offense sure is. they ran the ball 40 times compared to 25 passing attempts. shady had 31 carries.

the bills had a lot of rushing as well. 30 rushes to 25 passing attempts. first and second down they ran most of the time. to start off the 3rd quarter, out of 11 plays they only threw twice. on their next possession they threw 4 times and ran 3. 4rd possession, 2 carries to one pass. 4th possession it was pretty evenly split 3 and 3. the next two possessions had two of each.

just from the look of it, though, there is a lot of grounding and pounding, or at least trying to. and then considering that 12 of manuel's 25 attempts went to RBs...i don't know. seems like it depends on the RBs a lot.

Running attempts doesn't = ground and pound.

Philly for example, Shaddy had a lot of attempts with the O spread out and the O and D aren't creating a pile of trash people have to pull themselves out of. Those piles slow things down.

Heck, Philly's OL hardly moved on tons of plays ....was just a matter of Shaddy getting up and starting again

kelly's offenses have always been run first. i guess it all depends on your interpretation of ground and pound, but if your offense relies heavily on the run game/RBs to open up the other parts of the game and if you carry the ball significantly more than you pass it, i consider that ground and pound.

point is, the bills have a coach that comes from a run heavy background. same with the redskins. the bills have an offense, at the moment, that uses the run game and short quick outs to protect the QB and limit mistakes. same with the redskins.

there's not a whole lot different in what they are doing fundamentally...it's just that the bills are doing it a little bit faster.

May I say I hope someone from that forum reads this post. The quality of people's posts on there versus that gawd awful Seahawks forum is night and day. I've never personally met a Buffalo fan, but here's to a good game on Sunday.

And fug Seahawks.net and Seahawks.com

When I use the phrase ground and pound I mean lining up with power run formations. Can't run uptempo with that.

Kelly runs....but he does it in a manner where it can be incorporated in an uptempo offense.

He runs from formations that could be a pass or run.  Those power formations you're talking about are like 80% run probability or even higher.

Yes. But I think we are now getting off the initial topic.

My point was simply he is trying to build an up tempo offense and those simply put limitations on a defensive line.

EJ attempted 1 pass from under C against NE. One. The rest of the time he we in shotgun dumping it off as quick as he could.....tons of shallow and short routes. Yes they run....but everything is being built to be fast. Run quick. Pass quick. That minimizes the chances a DL has to impact a QB....QB then can put the stress on the back 7 to be on their assignments and make quick decisions. You don't have to throw deep to stress the back 7 doing that....

Very good write-up.                I don't mind that they're not allowing opposing fans to really post on their forums right now.

The Bills fans have been whipping boys longer than we have.   So,  I understand their mods wanting to protect their guys from other fans that would troll.   Even if we wouldn't,  other fans would troll them.
