An exercise in Management: Motivation

Today I had probably one of my better moment in Management, I achieved the perfect motivational prep talk.

To set this up I must start from the beginning, this morning at work I was given a project to take care of that was to be finished by end of business Day, it was a soft deadline not a hard one, but was preferred that it was done that day. I was given as assistance in finishing the project the youngest employee(19) at the company with already a reputation for being quit the slacker as help to finish this project.

Upon realizing that I was having this person as my assistant for the project I was quit unpleased, because I knew what would happen next, general laziness and going through the motions, he seemed to put little effort or thought into the task at hand.  after dealing with this for nearly 2 hours in the morning and nearly snapping at him once, but thought of the fact I discovered through own person experience that chewing someone out can have quit the demotivating effect, and I wanted this project done today. so I thought: "how can I motivate this kid so that he would want to help me get this project finished in a timely manner?", and then it hit me, everyone wants a better job!

This Kid needless to say because of his age was at the bottom of the food chain as far as workers for the company goes, but He knew that 1, I'm in a management position and 2, I'm respected by both upper management and piers for getting the job done.

I asked him does he want work the same low end low paying job for the rest of his life? which he replied: "of course not", I then in a fatherly "looking out for your best interest" way go into a 5 minute speech in order to move along and get a better Job and position he needs to grow a work ethic and become a self motivated person(not waiting to be told what to do), and all the benefits associated with that(a lot of stress was put into the benefits during the talk).

End result, He's motivated! I got him to not only work harder and smarter now, but he's also focused at the job at hand and wanting to get the job done. and I get the project done on time looking good.  I've probably been working at one level of Management or another for 6 years now, dealing with various amounts of underlings and had various issues before, this is just one of the few times that It got the exact perfect end result that was desired.

So let me ask you this, ever had to do any Motivational talks before? did you get good results or bad, what has seemed to work for you and what hasn't?

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.

It works difficult to keep germs from entering the body and protects against environmental threats including sun's ultraviolet rays. Tea Tree oil is of the few essential oils a person simply don't need to dilute before you apply to your skin. It is often a concentrated natural oil safe for most skin types but along with sensitive skin may in order to dilute out.   Read More......>>>> https://sites.google.com/view/neotonics-official-web/home https://supplementamazon.com/buy-neotonics/ https://groups.google.com/g/neotonics-get-special-offer-/c/qitCTT9UoFc https://supplementamazon.blogspot.com/2024/11/neotonics-official-website-does-it.html https://soundcloud.com/neotonics0/neotonics-must-read-before-you-try-safe-or-at-risk https://neotonics-5.jimdosite.com/ https://gamma.app/docs/Neotonics-fcpshrechkygxai https://neotonics-buy.hashnode.dev/neotonics-details-reviews-more-info-to-buy
    • Ah, the ol Cam Newton hating.  I will give you credit, the week of pretending to be a Daniel Jones super fan is a very clever way to disguise your hatred of Cam.
