"The Health Insurance Association of America describes Medicaid as a "government insurance program for persons of all ages whose income and resources are insufficient to pay for health care." (America's Health Insurance Plans (HIAA), pg. 232)."

Aside from the top 1 percenters, isn't this just about everyone in the country? I mean, who can honestly say, "Yeah, I can afford health care for me and my family with no help. Thanks, anyway!"

Going to battle with dss first thing Monday morning for my son to get temporary emergency medicaid. He had to have an emergency appendectomy Wed afternoon and has no insurance at his job. His job offers it, but his coverage doesn't go into effect until the first of the year.

You can request a hearing, but I have no idea what all that entails. I hope you've called and spoke to someone who can help you.

I've yet to call anyone about it.

I had an appendectomy when I was 8. It's unbelievably painful the first few days, I wish you and him the best of luck.

If you're over 18, and live on your own, or over 21 and still live with your parents (LOL) good luck getting medicaid in NC. The allowable income hasn't been changed since 1983. The base income allowed to receive medicaid is somewhere around $400 bucks a month - meaning if you make over 400 a month you don't qualify. The only income levels that have been adjusted in the last 3 decades are those for pregnant mothers - who subsequently find themselves not qualifying again 6 months after giving birth - and those for minors (parental income obviously)

If you are 21 and still live with your parents, you can still be on their insurance plan.  That is one of the better changes of the ACA.

Btw, how long before this ends up in the tinderbox?

This whole website is a tinderbox

Thanks!

My son said the pain now is nowhere near as bad as it was before the surgery. He's bouncing back pretty quick, or he thinks he is.

Got that right. And, to some extent, it's also a microcosm of society and the message boards here clearly reflect the lack of tolerance and common courtesy that has disappeared in our daily lives.

I don't know.  I have found that irt personal interaction, people are still relatively polite.  Its the anonymity of the internet that allows some to not worry about being polite.

I am probably guilty of that myself at times.  :)

You're right, I don't think the vast majority of people here would use the term "fugtard" in public as much as they do on a keyboard.... I hope.
