Thomas was thrown at four times and allowed three receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. He made one costly error on the long touchdown. Otherwise he played well. As costly as it was he shouldn't be benched for that. Norman should be replacing Captian

thomas played pretty well overall i thought... he fell off towards the end, but i largely blame that on the offense not scoring points; otherwise he'd be credited with being part of the secondary that only allowed the vaunted seahawks attacked to score only one touchdown.

Instead, he was beat like a drum the play before the TD and the WR dropped it. Having played corner before (obviously not in the NFL), the very next play he should have backed up for fear of being beat again. He did not though... Which is why the TD he gave up worries me so much more. He got beat on back to back plays bro. Our differences aside, doesn't this concern you?

he is being pointed to as the weakest link on the defense, and yet only allowed three catches. that's a pretty decent weak link, especially given how poorly the offense played, setting him up to fail.

He could have not given up a score for all 60 min, but if he gives up the play that leads to the win for the other team, he hasn't done his job. Thomas was abused all day. He gave some help in run support but he is more than a liability against the pass.

SEA was the 32nd ranked pass offense last year, the made no considerable upgrades, came out here and did dirty things to us. Most of it was aimed at ya boy. So you can talk crap all you want but the bottom line is the kid got torched.

Anyone else notice that Ron makes very aggressive moves in more ways than we originally thought. Didnt he gamble on not bringing Godfrey over the top twice? Ive only re-watched the first half so far. If thats true, Ron was playing odds to shut down Lynch and make Wilson beat us deep. Just as much Ron's fault as Thomas' at that point.

 

Im not sure if our coaches make any adjustments based on momentum. They make them based on the X's and O's I would think but to not see that Wilson was going off and was, at the time, "feelin it", is just strange to me. Idk havnt re-watched second half but wow that first half was monstrous by the D.

I want to give Norman a shot to start, but this is not the week. The vast majority of Manuel's passes were short dinks. Tons of screens, throws in the flats, crossing routes, slants. Norman is notorious for refusing to play on his man, and giving a big cushion even when it's not called for by the playcall. I don't know why he does it, maybe he thinks it helps him make a play, but when the opponent's passing offense is based around the short ball, it just doesn't work. For reference watch the Bears game from last year when Cutler picked on our cushions about 8 times in a row on slants and drove down the field.

 

I don't think they were designed short passes, just check downs.  From what I saw he only had one good down-the-field pass.

The fact is Josh Thomas gave up a big play which ultimately led to a loss and yet he is a serviceable DB, and nothing more. Don't be delusional. Considering the depth at WR for The Seahawks and how badly Wilson made top-tier defenses (ex. San Francisco) look, Thomas did an adequate job for the caliber of DB he is overall. Fans love to b#%$@ but it could have been soooooo much worse. Perhaps you would have preferred a 55 point blowout? The margin for error was excruciatingly small (thanks to the lack of production from the offensive side of the ball), and it came down to a 42 yard circus play.

Get over it, and move on.

Thomas had a good game outside that catch. Seattle ran the same play back to back with 2 different receivers becuz they saw something to exploit gotta give the CB some help on that.

Did Josh Thomas play below average? Yep. I do not deny this. However, did he gave up three scores and 150+ yards, and singlehandedly cost us the game? Hell no. In addition, our secondary gave up a league worst 66% completion rate last year because of the scheme McDermott runs. Was it any different on Sunday?

I'll take Thomas' two big plays and 12 points over Witner's four big plays and 40+ point loss any day.

Fine. You have your opinion about the situation and I have mine. They just so happen to differ ever so slightly. You like Thomas and his play, I like Thomas but am not crazy about his play.
