not sure why people are bagging on the OP like this when he brings up multiple good points.

 

it's worth noting that a number of these critical missed plays were both on third down when conversions were needed and plays that, if completed, would've put us in scoring position. there's a big difference between pointing at a botched play on 2nd and 7 on your own 35 as the reason you lost the game and pointing at 3rd and 5 on seattle's 45 with a field-goal-range strike for a first down. OP seems to be orienting his argument to the latter rather than the former, and i think he makes a good case

The problem is like Zod said, any game plan that depends on 100% execution success to eek out a win isn't a very good game plan.  A game with close to 100% execution success should equal a win in pretty dominate fashion in almost every instance.

I think the point that everyone's missing is that all four instances outlined in the OP would have allowed us at least a field goal chance, if not continuing the drive into a TD. If we had converted all of those into FG's at minimum, we score 19 instead of 7. Though, a low total, that's fairly respectable, and would have been good enough to win, against a very strong team in the Seahawks.

yup, that's exactly what i'm saying. big difference between trying to say the game hinged on a few incomplete balls in the middle of the field where it doesn't matter. these were huge drops or bad throws or fumbles where scoring plays would have directly resulted. huge difference.

I really don't think we needed anywhere close to 100% execution to be sucessful. IF Olsen caught those 2 passes, we would have been in field goal range and if we only got 3 points each, we would have won the game 13-12. Now, if Deangelo hadn't of fumbled, that would have probably been another 7 points, making it 20-12. This doesn't even take into account the stupid penalties, missed coverage by the secondary while Wilson ran around and threw up miracle passes that led to Seattle's points. Smitty said on the drive yesterday he ran many routes that were indeed long routes, but because of Seattle's excellent secondary they were able to disguise their coverage. This made Cam not process the open receiver quick enough and instead he threw it to a check down (probably to avoid throwing a turn over). I really don't think Shula called a bad game. I think some missed opportunities both by Cam, the receivers and the secondary caused our lack of points.

I think Sunday will be more about who wants it more rather then more game planing. This game has become more important since our loss. Nobody wants to go 0-2. With a record like that the season will already be on the down fall and we will be eliminated in any conversation about contending for a playoff spot.

You like to bring up that our winning was ruined by one mistake on that drive. You're ignoring that 30 yards of that drive and one critical 3rd down conversion came off of blatent Seattle mistakes.
