assface i know at least 10 hmong in greensboro alone and i doubt i know every single one. are you the hmong-looking dude with the facial hair and baseball hat that sits in the commons area of the jackson library all the time?

 

edit: i know they're not the same as burmese, but historically a lot of hmong came to the u.s. under political duress much the same as shan-state refugees now, which is an interesting cultural comparison to make.

tons of Hmong speak Thai or Lao, which is why I asked questions in both scripts... just curious. i haven't spoken Thai with anyone in a couple years and my Lao has never been much more than functional so I'm always on the lookout for speakers

Only Hmongs you'll find today who can speak or read Thai/Laos are older adults who are 40+ in ages.

If you can find a 20 or even a 35 yrs older who can speak Thai/Laos, you're very very lucky.

If you have as much Hmong friends as you say you do, you'd know that we use the English alphabets. We have no script.

Bad play by Cam but there is too much pressure on Cam to get the ball to smitty is one notion this team needs to get rid of. It has fuged us consistently through Smitty's later years. Spread the ball out.

that's an awfully broad brush you're painting with. a huge number of hmong that are here today came over as refugees post-pathet lao, which coincides with that age range, but a lot of their children speak it at home as well, even if they're not fluent or well-practiced.

 

i don't hang out with any of them on a regular basis and we've never really discussed the language, but i couldn't remember if there was a script or if it was just phonetically translated to the roman alphabet; regionally there's a laotian script, a thai script, burmese, and khmer, but it'd make sense that either of the first two could be used to phonetically transcribe the hmong language.

I went to the coaches tape to look at this... here's what Cam saw just before he decided to throw to Smitty: 

 

 

Bennett had beaten Bell (one of many times this day) and meanwhile Sherman had stumbled a little trying to trail Smitty.... Cam threw the ball a little behind Smitty with Bennett bearing down on him and Sherman recovered and made a hell of a play on the ball. 

 

You can see from this pic a few frames later that Cam threw this ball with Bennett literally at his feet. He had to sidearm it to get around Bell and he couldn't step into the throw which caused it to sail and gave Sherman an opportunity to make a play on it.

 

 

With Bennett bearing down on him like this, Cam wouldn't have had time to reset his feet and make a throw to the left side of the field... he saw that Smitty had Sherman beat and Bennett was getting ready to eat his lunch, so he made the best throw he could under the circumstances.

But no, Cam was too conservative. "He didn't get enough passing yards, wtf man!"

 

The football experts here think Cam definitely should have been throwing down field all day on the best secondary in the NFL. I'm sure these fans totally would have been understanding if Seattle picked him off too, am I right?
