On Cam's near interception

Here is a capture from the pass to Smith that was nearly intercepted.

Things I notice ...

3 defenders on the right with 2 options. 2 defenders on the left with 2 receivers.

A) Smitty is not open. He is covered up pretty well by the DB. The underneath taken away by the linebacker.

B ) Ginn, hidden behind fox logo, is open and looking for the ball. He ran a great route and got the needed separation.

C) Lafell apparently is neither open nor looking for the ball.

D) Pretty decent pass protection, except for Bell.

Watching the play, Cam never takes his eyes off Smith, sadly.

Ginn was breaking away at this moment. Really difficult to step into a deep throw when the defender is where he is at that particular moment. I'd of rather he scrambled on this play given how good the coverage on Smith is, but I don't think the deep ball is really an option given the pressure here.

Other QB's make that timing route play routinely. Its not that difficult. He isn't throwing to Ginn, but to a spot Ginn will be at.

I am sure they will be going over film telling him the same thing.  He is so comfortable with Cam, and Smitty makes good catches even being double teamed it might seem the best option.  Still I saw several times when Ginn was open down the field.  Hopefully we take some shots to him this week.  He could be a huge weapon if we use him properly.

I don't know....that Seattle MLB is playing Cam's eyes....looks like one step to his right and he jumps into the passing lane where Ginn looks to be setting up shop.

Smith at least is running away from Sherman and Cam into a lane between the two defenders underneath.

For some reason it didn't seem like Cam was going through reads like he usually does. He usually looks at a couple receivers unless his first read is wide open, but Sunday he locked on Smitty and Olsen Delhomme style. Next practice they should make Cam only target the other receivers so they can work on chemistry.

Smitty also lobbies for the ball like no other receiver in the game. Ginn may need to step up and get in Cam's ear about how open he is.

I think the problem here is, from the pic, it looks like Bell completely whiffs on his man and forces Cam to throw quick - and when Cam has to get rid of the ball quickly, he's usually throwing it to one of Olsen or Smith.

The pic is deceiving. I can count a good 4 Mississippi before he throws.

if throwing to Ginn, you would have to fit it in behind that LB and in between the CB. it appears he is throwing it to a spot outside away from Sherman, and the ball is already out of his hands.(judging from Cam's body, it appears he just followed thru after throwing the ball) so if Ginn is just now getting open, its hard to throw it to him when you do not  have the ball because it appears he already threw it to 89. can you take pics of the play at different times?

Smitty said the throw to him in the redzone for the TD was Cam's third read/option. Please stop.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
