Help Wanted: Second Receiver

He took very few shots last time..,

Does last years game accurately reflect who he is?

His eye were focused on the Hawks weakness and away from their huge strength. It wasnt a bad strategy

I am not saying that he has changed....only that he seemed different in this game. Could very well be a result of the Hawks defense dictating what we did.

My point is that I hope the staff is not trying to change him

D. Hixon is the receiver the Panther's need to step up but the problem with that is he is made of glass so is always hurt. I would put his chances of making it the rest of the season right there with the Panthers winning the SB - possible but highly unlikely.

cam needs better weapons, better blockers, a better playcaller, and he needs to make the most of all of them. 

 

this offense just flat needs some attention that it hasn't gotten.

Correct me if I'm wrong - didn't Sherman cover LaFell the majority of the game?

Last year, Sherman held Fitz to 1 catch for 2 yards, Megatron to 3 catches for 46 yards, and Dez Bryant to 3 catches for 17 yards.

The QB makes the WR, not vice versa.  Smitty may be an exception to that rule, but even he had problems when Clausen was throwing him the ball.

 

LaFell was in position to make catches Sunday.  So was Ginn.  Newton just locked on to Smitty like Jake used to.  Granted, that could have been part of the game plan, it's not like anyone was out there taking risks or anything, and Smitty and Olsen are our two safest targets.

 

If we were running a wide open offense under a guy like Bruce Arians or Sean Payton, you would have seen far more targets to second and third receivers.  Instead, we threw the ball 20 times, with almost all the targets going to two guys.  That's not enough of a sample size to make a "replace this guy" judgement.

Armanti Edwards - Played one snap on Sunday and posted a single run block. At least that is something. Armanti had the best camp and preseason of his career. Apparently he has not earned the coaches trust enough to give him a chance.

 

 

 

Have any of the players?  This is one major fault I still have with the Rivera regime... lack of trust in what our players can do.

I don't get this either.  Is the general idea that Cam is enough?  Is it that the current staff is more defensive oriented?  The offense has been neglected.

Agreed....everyone should take a few minutes and listen to this interview with Greg Cosell who in my opinion is one of the best (if not the best) analysts there is. In the beginning of the interview he discusses what the Panthers are trying to do as far as Cam and his skill set. Later in the interview he is asked if the #2 receiver that the Panthers need is currently on the roster and he says Lafell is that person and goes into exactly what Cyberjag just said.

 

Greg's analysis on the situation is spot on IMO and definitely worth listening to.

Even if they wanted to...I personally don't think you can change that type of QB. You could ask Jake to play safe for a game maybe....but gunslingers sling. That's just my take. I am not worried about Cam being scared of trying the big play.....he simply played a smart game against a team he should of.

Can always 2nd guess his throws in hindsight but his plan against Seattle was solid. Things just didn't fall right

Cam is doing everything he said would do this offseason. Take care of the football and take what the defense gives him. In a game like this it was the right thing to do.

Also on that td to Steve Smith he did a great job going through his progressions. It's not like he was throwing ducks and interceptions everywhere. He made 1 or two bad throws the whole game. Greg Olsen doesn't drop those passes he probably throws for over 200 yards.

 

glad you mention that about going thru his progressions, because this goes unnoticed. on that TD pass to smitty, his 1st read was Olsen going to the corner back line, but the seahawks jumped that route and he came off that read and hit smitty underneth on a drag.

 

some of us have been wanting more WRs on this team for the longest. this has to be one of the many things on the agenda for DG this offseason.

Just like Smitty said in the interview, Cam is trashed if he turns the ball over and takes chances, now he's trashed because he's taking less chances and dumping it off. Damned if he does, damned if he don't.

When I re-watched the game(thanks to rewind) you could see lots of blanket coverage. Smitty and Olsen were the ones who were getting open mostly.

 

People who mention Cam not throwing to Ginn deep, should also see that he got pressured too.  There were times where you see him scanning the field for a deep throw but no one was open and pressure got to him before a receiver could get open down the field.

 

On the one throw to Lafell, he was open but Cam was pressured and it affected the throw(was holding penalty anyway)

 

And once again, despite all the silly mistakes, the team was one fumble away from getting into the redzone(and taking the lead) on a drive where the Panthers were shredding the Hawks defense(mainly on the ground).

 

The passing attack, in they should improve,as other than the Bears, no other secondary is as good as Seattle.

i agree with this, i also remember cam throwing a good bit of picks due to getting smashed right as he threw it deep

Did we have a shot at Anquan Boldin in the offseason?  I can't recall if he was traded to the Niners or was a FA acquisition?  Either way, that dude would be a solid #2.  Big target, good hands, runs strong routes, gets YAC, and has an attitude close to Smitty's.

 

Would have liked to have him.
