Help Wanted: Second Receiver

What we REALLY need is the Old Cam back.

Cam is a big armed, big play QB. He is a gunslinger and has the ability to make big plays.

I am not sure if it was his focus on not turning the ball over.....or too much respect for the Hawks secondary....or the coaching. But, he MUST take shots down the field for this offense to be effective.

Don't get me wrong....this is not a bash Cam post. Only that we need him to trust his arms and let it fly.

Wait. We "learned" we needed a #2 receiver in week 1? I can't speak for everyone else, but personally I've known that since 2009. I was in college the last time we had a bona fide WR. He took very few shots down the field on Sunday.....even when the WR was open.

 

He needed to trust his arm anc challenge their DB's a few more times.

 

Cam is and always will be a high risk and high reward type of QB....it is who he is.  And, he is damn good at it.  Don't lose track of what makes him great while trying to develop other aspects of his game.

I guess this is what I was worried about. I like Cam being able to take care of the ball more but I don't want him second guessing or playing scared. If it is there, launch it. I understand that it was drilled in his hand to stay in the pocket more and limit the turnovers but this is football. You have to take chances.

I was just making an observation that Cam looked different Sunday.  I only hope this is not the coaching staff trying to change Cam.  Add to his skillset....but don't kill what makes him great.

I didn't other than twice. Chancellor and/or Thomas were always lurking. So what might appeared like a great read at first could have been a pick.

The fact is Ginn Jr got more separation than LaFell (our #2).

I still disagree. When I re-watched I specifically watched LaFell. Cam locks on Smitty and Olsen. There were a few outs where LaFell's routes and separation were fine. Our QB wasn't looking.

to be honest, laFell is not a speedster.  He is never going to get great separation....Cam has the ability to put the ball in there.  I want to see him continue to do so.

Larger possession receivers get separation from running crisp routes and being physical. Lafell is doing neither.

His eye were focused on the Hawks weakness and away from their huge strength. It wasnt a bad strategy

Cam is doing everything he said would do this offseason. Take care of the football and take what the defense gives him. In a game like this it was the right thing to do.

Also on that td to Steve Smith he did a great job going through his progressions. It's not like he was throwing ducks and interceptions everywhere. He made 1 or two bad throws the whole game. Greg Olsen doesn't drop those passes he probably throws for over 200 yards.

According to Rivera at his pressed yesterday, they were still limiting AE as a precaution because of his hammy. He said he will get more reps this week.

We'll see if it makes any difference.
